I have also worked with foster families, hospice patients and their families, older adults, couples, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
I work with people using a variety of philosophies, but those encompassing humanistic and psychodynamic theories inform most of my practice. This generally means I am most interested in focusing on emotions, insight, relationships, past experiences, meta-emotion, self-worth, authenticity, fantasies, and the unconscious. I rely heavily on discussing shame, vulnerability, emotional needs, and creating meaning in life. I am fairly non-directive, and I will be most focused on helping you find your own authentic path by reflecting and exploring deeper meanings and patterns that arise in our discussions.

I’ve worked with adolescents, adults and families for over 20 years, including areas like anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, trauma, relationship struggles, and parenting of biological, step, foster or adoptive children.
Are you or your family struggling during this unprecedented pandemic? Have you been experiencing an increase in anxiety or depression trying to adjust to a more socially distanced world? Is your child or adolescent struggling with how to express their emotions? Even without the pandemic, have you been feeling disconnected or like you could benefit from talking to someone about what you’ve been thinking, feeling or experiencing? I want to join with you to create a safe place to help you understand why you do the things you do and empower you to find new ways to build resilience to cope, communicate or connect with others.

I work with adolescents and adults seeking individual, child/parent, or relationship therapy.
My view on therapy is very simple, though not always easy: 'through relationships, we heal’. Many of the barriers that inhibit healthy relationships include negative self-talk, fear of judgement, and our need to maintain a sense of control, especially when we are deeply hurt or wounded. Trauma does not discriminate and it does not wait for an opportune time to present, but we can make sense of it and heal old wounds that hold us back from really connecting with those we love.

Hello, my name is Jordan, and I have over ten years of experience working with individuals, families, and couples.
Are your relationships becoming increasingly more challenging to navigate? Sometimes, our emotions get the best of us and we lash out at the people we love or recluse from them. Either way, it feels like a perpetual cycle. This can happen in our parenting, romantic relationships, and our work. Maybe you've talked with some close friends or even read up to try and find a solution, but you haven't found the missing piece to the puzzle.

Some areas of treatment focus are anxiety, emotion dysregulation, relationship issues, grief, spiritual/religious trauma & recovering from narcissistic abuse.
I believe that every person has a natural drive towards growth and healing. It's what brought you to this page! I’m passionate about helping people to understand their emotions and reconnect with and trust their bodies again. I believe that emotions are this incredible built-in compass to help us navigate life in a way that is meaningful and in alignment with our truest selves. However, we have learned to disconnect from our emotions due to trauma, various cultural and familial messages around emotions, and because some emotions are too overwhelming to do alone so we disconnect to survive. Wherever you are at, there is hope.

I believe in the transformative power of a safe, supportive therapy relationship informed by the synergy between a client's wisdom and clinician's expertise.
Maybe coming to therapy is an easy, intuitive next step for you. You know and trust yourself to find just the right counselor. You know what you need from therapy to support your relationships, career/life satisfaction, self-care needs, or trauma recovery. I trust your inner wisdom and can’t wait to collaborate with you. Or, maybe you’re more tentative about this whole “therapy” thing. Life may have taught you that trust is precious–that reaching out for support could be dangerous. You may have even gotten the message not to believe in or advocate for yourself. Well, this might be a surprise: I also trust *your* inner wisdom.

My professional experience includes work with individuals, couples and families in clinical private practice, outpatient programs, Montessori education and mental health consultation.
I enjoy working with people to reach solutions toward a more emotionally balanced and fulfilling life. It can be difficult to acknowledge that an area in your life feels overwhelming. Perhaps it is a feeling of being stuck and wanting more. I work with individuals to identify what patterns in thinking, feeling or behavior have become problematic. It is my privilege to work with clients in discovering what they really want for their life.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
