I have over 10 years of experience counseling adults, couples, and families in the areas of relationships, trauma, grief, addiction, stress, and general mental health.
I’ve been a counselor and a coach for over a dozen years now and I have learned that to be our best, to truly make positive changes in our lives we need to address the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. Our goal is the full integration of the emotional child, the intellectual adult, the physical body, and the spirit guide (soul). I believe that everyone is capable of, is in fact entitled to, a life of happiness, love, peace, and fulfillment. I utilize an integrative approach that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), empathetic listening, mindfulness, and spirituality.

Karla specializes in working with individuals, families, children-teens, couples, and couples seeking mediation during a divorce, and Christian counseling.
Practice has immediate openings for clients. I am currently not accepting new clients but my associate is: Giselle Ortiz, who is bilingual and is offering telehealth. Please see her link attached below. As a therapist, "I am dedicated to helping my client's work through their issues and uncover what is the best solution for their individual needs. Change is rarely without difficulty and not always welcome, but most people who come to therapy are coming for that reason. They want their lives to feel more fulfilled but they need guidance, encouragement and understanding to complete this sometimes painful task."

You do not have to do this alone and you/your relationship deserve the space and time to heal.
Relationships never start off difficult. Disappointment, pain, betrayal, distance, emotional shut-off are all among the myriad reasons they become difficult. Often times the distance between two people can feel insurmountable. A trained and effective therapist is able to bridge that gap and provide guidance and support on the journey back to relational health. Research shows most people wait 6 years to seek therapy. By this time, the sparks of discontent have become a fiery inferno and the help of a professional is invaluable in the process of healing and reconciliation.

Do you feel frustrated by the same issues coming up over and over again in your relationship? Do you feel like your partner isn't really there for you? Do you find yourself missing the connection that you used to have? Sometimes couples to get into emotional patterns that feel really bad. Many people feel like they have been loudly asking for what they need to no avail. Others feel like they are doing everything they can to make their partner happy, and it's not working. Other times, something has happened in the relationship that has led to a loss of trust. Are you wanting to get back to the joy you used to have?

This means that I hold the therapeutic relationship as the most sacred place of strength and vulnerability.
There they are again. The feelings of fear, worry, stress, powerlessness and shame. These feelings keep you stuck and make you feel miserable. I’d like to offer my services to you. Relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, and attachment issues are all reasons why men and women seek my services. Additionally, I have treated teenagers and children in the foster care system using expressive therapies. Intially many clients report: “I’m at the end of my rope;” “The same stuff keeps happening to me;” “A part of me just doesn’t feel right.” I've been helping people step out of that story for over twenty years.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
