Now I am carrying and, building upon, that experience by coming along side couples, families, adults, young adults, adolescence, teens, and preteens as they navigate every season of life.
Victor Frankl said, “Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation.” Many situations in life are beyond your control, you cannot change them, but you can still decide how you will respond. Life is going to be full of different seasons and transitions, and not all of them are going to be welcome or easy. My goal as your therapist is to come along side you and offer unconditional acceptance, support, and collaboration as you grow through every season of life.

I also work with couples.
Sometimes we all need support when life's challenges become overwhelming or difficult to manage alone. Working with a therapist can help you address difficult feelings, relationships or whatever else you may be facing. We will walk together through your concerns with compassion, intentionality and often a little laughter. My goal is to get you feeling better as quickly as possible.

For over 26 years I have been working with people seeking improvements in their personal lives or relationships. I welcome individuals, couples or families from all backgrounds whether their concerns are personal or relational. My approach is “strength-based,” which means that I look for client competencies and resources, and try to avoid pathologizing people because of their problems, past or diagnoses. How often and how long the therapy will last depends on client goals and treatment needs and will be mutually agreed upon. The atmosphere in my office is relaxed and warm, and clients are always treated with dignity and respect.

I'm experienced working with couples navigating unique challenges in various stages of their relationship.
You and your partner are staring at a long, bumpy road ahead of you. Once, you were excited to go on this journey together. Now, part of you is terrified of what's to come. You want to make things work, but you're tired and weary of having the same fight over and over. You can't seem to agree on anything. Are we ready for marriage or have similar goals? What's the best way to raise our kids? Enter stress from outside the relationship- pressure from opinionated in-laws, ever-increasing demands from work, kids acting out at school. Just when you need your partner's support the most, you feel like your teammate has left you stranded.

“When a person realizes he has been deeply heard, his eyes moisten. I think in some real sense he is weeping for joy. It is as though he were saying, ‘Thank God, somebody heard me. Through mutual respect, empathetic listening, and positive regard, I work alongside my clients to help them find resolution and peace.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
