On average people wait 5 years before they choose to pursue therapy, but there's no need. Life is difficult and struggling with mental health or issues with relationship dynamics makes it more difficult. Take a brave first step with hope and schedule an appointment today, there's no need to wait.

In a warm, safe, and patient space, let me help you challenge your struggles and transform the relationship you have with your life stressors.
Life can be full of challenges that may deprive you of your serenity. Are you in need of relief from emotions or relationships that are intense or emotionally painful? Maybe you're constantly in disagreement with your partner, and can't figure out why. Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, difficult memories, disordered eating, or dealing with the impact of a challenging past? Are you in recovery and finding it hard to navigate the challenges of early sobriety, like guilt and shame, or the pressured fear of letting others down? Whatever your stressors, you too can experience peace and live a productive life.

I would love the opportunity to talk with you about your specific needs and partner with you as you weave a healthier you.
Much like a tapestry, we are a collection of all of our life’s experiences and interactions, both good and bad. Sometimes we develop ways of coping that get us through the bad times but that eventually lose their effectiveness and no longer serve us. One of the greatest honors that I have as a therapist is being able to help my clients repair the tears and worn parts of their tapestry as they learn more about who they are, where they’ve been, and where they want to go while they simultaneously weave in better ways of coping and managing through life’s stressors.

The therapist-client relationship is just that, a relationship.
Are you becoming who you want to be? Are you overwhelmed by anxiety, negative thoughts, or self-doubt? Do you feel your emotions are controlling you? Are you struggling with the unknowns surrounding becoming financially independent, beginning, or ending a relationship, starting a career or making other major life decisions? Are you ready to heal from unhealthy relationships? You may remember a time when negative thoughts, strained relationships, and feeling overwhelmed weren’t the “norm”…but those days seems like a distant memory. Don’t you wish you had the tools to change that?

I know therapy can be scary, but I understand both sides of the therapeutic relationship and I believe sharing can be liberating, and it is okay to need and want support and a safe space to be vulnerable.
Hi! I am Kayle Lucas. I believe that counseling is a sacred space and opportunity for you to be heard and respected. I am grounded in the belief that people can be motivated towards achieving positive psychological functioning, and this is essential to every therapeutic relationship and provides the basis for change to occur. I believe you are an expert of your experience, your wants, and your needs. I do not believe there is one single approach or theory that works for everyone in every situation. I have a diverse understanding of theories and I incorporate a variety of therapeutic principles to create the best treatment for you.

Taking the first step into therapy can be intimidating. Being vulnerable with a complete stranger isn't the most comforting thought. It is my goal to provide an environment that allows you to feel safe to show up and be authentic without fear of judgement. We are all human beings and need help from time to time. My approach to counseling is a collaborative effort aimed at increasing self-awareness and establishing a sense of empowerment in your own life. I focus on meeting clients where they are and facilitating positive change for a healthy, successful life.

Whether you or your loved one have a substance use disorder, a history of trauma, or experience high levels of anger or anxiety, there is relief, and I am here to help you. I believe meaningful change occurs when client and psychotherapist co-create a space that invites curiosity, empathy, and introspection. To transform psychic pain, we often have to look inward at our ways of thinking, feeling, and relating (to both self and others). I strive to facilitate this process in the context of a warm therapeutic relationship where those with whom I’m working feel safe and empowered. Through empathic listening, skilled interpretation, and embodied attunement to the "here and now" interactive process, I can help you resolve debilitating symptoms and impart greater meaning to your experiences / relationships.

Counseling serves many purposes. It's a safe place to process current and past events. It's an opportunity to learn new skills that will help you cope with distressing emotions or to function better in relationships and other important areas of your life. It's a place to make sense of things and to find meaning and value in life. In short, it is designed to make your life better.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
