I am passionate about child development and have specialty in working with numerous childhood disorders presenting in early childhood (5 years-old) and onto adulthood, trauma disorders, challenges to family functioning such as intergenerational difficulties and parent-child relationship problems.
I strive to facilitate a dialogue that both empowers and engages clients in their own self-healing, valuing the co-creation of a transformative narrative and experience. As a licensed clinical psychologist, experienced in treating both children and adults, I view emotional and behavioral challenges as a dynamic outcome that develops as a result of complex interactions across time, as opposed to something inherently "broken" inside an individual.

Depression, anxiety, loneliness, professional dissatisfaction, the aftermath of trauma - these are symptoms of something deeper calling out for help. Working together, we can learn what stands between you and emotional balance, happiness and strength. Cultivating these positive states is a wonderful way to live! I also work with couples to identify and remedy the root causes of conflict and dissatisfaction. This might include re-opening long-closed channels of communication; revitalizing emotional and sexual intimacy; and learning more deeply what each of you wants and needs from the other.

I work with families and individuals struggling with unhealthy communication patterns, major life transitions, grief, trauma, anxiety/depression, defiance, and sibling rivalry. I believe in the power of relationships to heal, so my main focus is on creating a strong working alliance with my clients. Parenting classes, consultations, and new moms' groups offered.

My primary approach is mindfulness based, supported by our relationship.
My work is practical, eclectic, and deep. I am gentle and caring, yet focused and effective. I utilize mindfulness, cognitive therapy, and psychodynamic understanding to help clients make the changes they want. I look to see the goodness and strength of each person I meet. My interest in psychotherapy began with my own healing as a young man, and I have continued to grow as a person and a therapist.

Some of these issues include anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-criticism, grief/loss, and feelings of not belonging.
Therapy is a way to be kinder to yourself. It provides a chance to get to know yourself better. My aim is to offer people a sense of understanding themselves in a collaborative way. Together, we make efforts to notice the ways you relate to yourself and others, how you’re feeling and thinking, and the reasons why you manage stress in particular ways. I value an understanding of people’s backgrounds, early experiences, and environments. This can help us clarify the roots of current distressing patterns, as well as your existing strengths.

I am known in particular for my work with eating disorders, relationship issues, and anxiety and depression.
Patients come to me with a wide range of difficulties and consistently tell me that my responsive and interactive style is helpful to them. You may already have a clear idea of the problems you want to solve. Or you may need time to explore your experience and to clarify what you'd like to change. I provide a safe space for this exploration to take place.

Therapeutic exploration promotes profound connection, altering and healing the internal relationship and its experience of/with itself.
Sometimes life is hard. Inevitably it may occasionally feel intolerable, tremendous, or overwhelming. At times, challenges may feel insurmountable, and appear to require courage that is assumed to exceed our current capacity. And, especially during significant change, may evoke questioning the fundamentals of identity, relationships, and/or the external world. Although challenges in life cannot be avoided or prematurely alleviated, they can be shared in the space and experienced with healing. Within this process, there is a depth of potential for the parts of the self that hold the strength and resilience yet to be discovered.

You want to feel connected and secure in relationships and to be confident and empowered to achieve your aspirations. Something is holding you back. You feel lost, stuck, unsure of yourself. I focus on relationships, self-esteem, South Asian mental health, life transitions, and anxiety. Let’s change destructive patterns keeping you and your partner feeling sad, alone and stuck. Let’s stop the voice that nags: you “are not good enough” or “don’t deserve love”. Let’s transform self-doubt, anxiety and emptiness to passion, vitality and fulfillment. Let’s discover how you can feel present in your life, instead of hiding and faking it.

Creativity can be foundational to positive and longstanding change. We come into the world with an innate skill to solve the many problems that arise during development. Sometimes these solutions bring up new challenges or get in the way of our relationships and our ability to enjoy life. I work with children, adults, elders, and couples who are struggling to adapt to a stressful world. By developing a trusting relationship where exploration is welcomed and analyzed, we are able to find new ways of functioning, new solutions to our interpersonal conflicts, and improve our ability to flexibly adapt to our changing world.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
