Relationships can be hard. Partners struggle with communication, conflicting parenting styles, sexual expressions... Life's challenges, hurtful fights, history of trauma or infidelity make it difficult to sustain trust and closeness. How can you create desired connections, and not lose yourself in the process? How can you be true both to self and to your partnership? I invite you to explore these questions together with empathy and curiosity, letting go of habitual judgments, self-deprecation, and shame. I work with individuals, couples, and families. Both traditional and alternative lifestyles are welcome, and no issue is a taboo.

I specialize in helping couples work through difficulties to co-create the relationship they want to have.
We do not become who we are in a vacuum, but instead develop in relation to our family, culture, and context. We may not be responsible for the experiences that shape us, but we can take responsibility for how they impact us moving forward. Pursuing therapy is an important step towards developing an understanding of and appreciation for your past while putting yourself in the driver's seat for how you move forward. I work with people from a variety of backgrounds and enjoy helping clients increase their confidence and self-awareness to achieve greater fulfillment in life.

I provide brief and long-term sex therapy for individuals and couples using an integrative approach.
Are you struggling with intimacy or sexual concerns and not sure how to improve the situation? Sex therapy is a form of therapy intended to help individuals and couples resolve sexual difficulties, such as performance anxiety or relationship problems. It’s normal for clients to feel anxious when seeing a sex therapist, especially for the first time. Many people have trouble talking about sex at all, so discussing it with me as a stranger may feel awkward. I provide a safe space in exploring your sexual concerns, reducing the pain, and reaching desirable goals. I am one of the few Asian American AASECT certified therapists across US.

I provide a supportive environment to help adults and couples face issues of personal, psychological, and spiritual growth as well as find practical ways to improve their lives and relationships.
I believe that we grow through our struggles. They often point to parts of ourselves that are denied or have been banished to adapt to our early environments. In learning how to relate to and integrate more of our wholeness, we experience a greater capacity for and flexibility in relationships as well as a greater resiliency in their lives. I work with clients to increase awareness of themselves and their patterns, both healthy and unhealthy, to have greater choice and freedom in the way they live, and to discover lifepaths that authentically express who they are.

I specialize in problems of Chemical Dependency and Recovery, Learning Disabilities, Crisis, Depression, Domestic Violence, Employment, Life Transitions, Women's Issues, Family Counseling, Spiritual Crisis, Couples Counseling and Pre-Marital Counseling.
Good therapy involves the right match. I also provide a free 30 minute (in person) question and answer session (not counseling). This allows you to understand what your therapy process will look like. If we decide to work together, you will be involved in a very action oriented therapy. Our work will encourage you to practice your new skills during the week. I try to use approaches that you find helpful like: writing in a journal, reading books, support groups, and/or your spiritual practices, that may help while you are in therapy. You're too old to not have relationships figured out. But lately, you've started to wonder if it's just normal to feel invisible, if it's even possible for you to have a relationship that makes you want to smile. When you show up as yourself the way the latest article tells you to, all you hear is that you're too much and nothing changes. Now you just find yourself shutting down, keeping as out of the way as possible. You’re tired of feeling scared that your partner will leave. Or even worse, that she'll stay and you’ll be stuck feeling this way forever. Breathing deeply and stretching into your skin feels impossible.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
