I specialize in couples (dating/marr/div), individuals, & adolescents.
Overcoming our trials and our weaknesses is one of the hardest things we can do in life. Whether it be individually, as a couple, or as a parent, facing our challenges will be our only path to happiness. There is no "around" the struggles of life, there is only through. Without a navigating source, the path often feels impossible to find. I believe in people's ability to grow, to change and live in a way that leaves no regrets. We are not meant to go through life standing alone - healthy connection is happiness, that connection must often start with ourselves.

I work with youth, adults, families and couples, struggling with Depression, Anxiety ADHD, Behavioral issues, Adoption and Attachment, Faith crisis, Trauma, Anger and LGBTQIA issues.
Every individual has inherent value, strengths and gifts. I use compassion and a variety of clinical interventions to help my clients work through the challenges that are preventing them from experiencing life in a more fulfilling way. Too often we succumb to the narrative that we are not good enough, flawed, broken. You may have suffered due to trauma and harm inflicted by others or a painful life event. We will work together to help you recognize their own resiliency, heal trauma and harmful messages and gain effective coping strategies.

During my years as a therapist, I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds and relationship dynamics.
Are you wondering if therapy is right for you? Here are a few questions to ask yourself: Am I struggling to be myself? Is there a choice in my life I am currently struggling with? Do I find myself worrying more? Are my thoughts overwhelming me? Going through something difficult? Have I lost interest in things I used to love? Have friends been avoiding me or saying they are worried about me? Do I keep secrets from others, and do I feel shame? Do I feel worthless compared to others? Has daily life felt harder lately? If you answered yes to any of these questions therapy can help! I can help you to find the answers you are seeking!

I specialize working with folks working through life transitions: whether that be developmental stage transitions, relationship, faith, and identity transitions, I am here to support you through it.
Therapy is about the experience of getting to know ourselves again and reacquainting ourselves with who we are at our core. We live in such a fast-paced world and it is easy to get lost. Sometimes, we lose sight of who we are. I believe all of us have many different parts of ourselves. Some protect us, some help us succeed, some hold us back, and some keep us safe. Engaging in therapy with me is about the experience of loving all of our parts, even the ones we may say “I don’t like that about me.” Let's begin our journey!

Imagine if life with your partner could go back to being as exciting as when you were first together. Soft smiles when you catch each other’s eyes, staying up all night talking, and dreaming of what the future might hold. All too often couples get trapped in conflict, and that pulls them away from the happiness they used to know. They begin to fight constantly or start to avoid their partner altogether. This can lead to further stress and even more conflict. You begin to wonder how you got here, where is the partner you used to know, and if you will ever be able to get back to where you were.

I work with couples, families, and individuals seeking help with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, betrayal trauma and infidelity, faith transitions, re-marriage and stepfamily blending, unwanted pornography use, and ADHD. I believe that "Self-compassion is far more likely to move us forward than self-hatred." -Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife. I would be honored to help you find that self-compassion, which will benefit you individually and in your relationships.

Start the path toward healing yourself and your partner.
Desperately wrestling the couch cushions into a configuration that won’t kill your back, you finally break down into helpless tears. Your marriage is in tatters and you’re hanging on by a thread. Between your children and your careers, you’ve had nothing left for each other. It feels like you’ve forgotten how to enjoy one another’s company. You feel like a stranger in your own home. It’s either constant bickering or frigid silence. Getting older, you realize you don’t have the energy for either – and this couch brutalizing your spine. You’d do anything to get your best friend back. You need help before this distance grows too great

As a PhD marriage and family therapist, I have successfully helped couples, families, individuals and college students find happiness in life. I believe everyone has the power to change. However, we often get stuck. Over the years I have participated in peoples amazing transformations as they become unstuck and learn how to be happy, have healthy relationships, overcome trials and other problems. I've found that everyone I've met with in therapy can change and be happy if they want to. Morning, day and evening sessions available. My office is in Jamestown Square in Provo and in Holladay off of Highland Drive.

It takes courage to start this process, looking for a therapist. You likely have some hope things can change. Your marriage is very important, and if it isn't going well, your whole world can feel like it's crumbling. If you and your partner are stuck in the same painful go-arounds. Even if you’ve lost sight of each other and feel numb. I can help. I am an EFT trained therapist with over 25 years of experience working with couples. Doing marriage counseling is choosing to invest in you and your loved ones.

From a place of safety we change your relationship with your trauma.
I like to come at therapy kind of like I would a drummer at a jam session. I'm there to find a groove with another voice. I want to communicate with you and help you to open up and learn to express yourself. We will seek understanding first and then we will find a way to encourage healing and growth that is unique to you and builds a stronger identity. I am strengths-based and I like to find existing skills to help a client build a new way of thinking and interacting with their body. This is also a very effective way of beginning the process of healing symptoms of PTSD in conjunction with other evidence based trauma treatments.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
