Hello and thank you for viewing my profile. I have always had a bit of a different approach to healing than traditional therapy. My studies have been both in counseling and in spiritual arts, including astrology, chakras and energy/sound healing. Each of us has certain patterns, ways we exist in this world. Healing blockages frees you from past traumas and current emotional patterns. I can help you to shift your life to more ease, joy and peace through understanding and release. I am a psychotherapist and expressive arts therapist based in Boulder, CO. I use a trauma-informed approach that draws on the depth of relational psychoanalysis, the practicality of cognitive behavioral therapy, and the expressive magic of somatic and art-based approaches. I love working with anxiety and OCD-related disorders, embodiment and trauma healing, relationship issues, gifted populations, and people looking to nurture their creativity. I work with adults, couples, and teens. I’m especially passionate about the journey of individuation while holding each unique life story in a social justice context.

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with several additional trainings including working with Harvard Medical School in Global Mental Health and Traumatic recovery. I have worked within many cultures and contexts including high level business executives, veterans, Indigenous and refugee populations and professional athletes. I work with individuals and couples and am available for crisis or emergency sessions.

For years I have worked with clients who are moving through major life transitions and grief, or working with depression, anxiety, or psychological trauma. When we suffer from distress, I believe we are simply "forgetting" our natural wisdom and the fundamental health that lies beneath our outward problems. Underlying my work is a essential belief that our soul is on a journey in this human body, and we are here to learn deep lessons and celebrate the gift of being human - this implies my optimistic view of human psychological distress.

I am honored to enter into the sacred space of therapy together with my clients. I use an integrative, trauma informed, and strength based approach combining empathy, mindfulness, and radical acceptance as well as a plethora of therapeutic tools (ie--imagery, parts work, role play, body/somatic awareness). I have a passionate social justice orientation and am experienced in a wide breadth of issues.

Evalie Horner is especially passionate about supporting artists and writers, trauma survivors, and the LGBTQ community. During the late 1990s, Evalie helped to pioneer C.U. Boulder's LGBTQ studies certificate, one of the country's first programs of this kind. She has several publications in the field of LGBTQ studies, including a book chapter on counseling bisexual clients. Evalie raises her twin girls, Emma and Ryan. Her mother was an astologer who trained her and she has recently enjoyed reading and incorporating client astrological charts when asked. She is also an expert in the unique challenges of LGBTQ plus divorce.

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to heal and reconnect. Therapy can be an intimidating journey and as a therapist I strive to create an environment for my clients that feels caring and supportive, welcoming all emotions and experiences into the space. In my counseling work I offer client centered approaches, tailoring to each clients individual needs while building a therapeutic relationship. Many have worked to gain clarity and make meaning of their life and unhealthy patterns in relationships but somehow keep finding themselves stuck in the same place. Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, relationship issues, codependency, difficulty communicating or setting boundaries, overwhelm, dysregulation, a lost sense of self, or any other discomforts stemming from childhood trauma can make adult life even harder to navigate. As meaning-making creatures, finding a sense of clarity regarding our experiences goes a long way towards reconnnecting with our true selves, regulating our emotions, and reaching our healing goals. If you are intuitive/empathic and have a deep desire to strengthen your connection to yourself and examine/release patterns that no longer serve you, we may be a good match!
