I have over 25 years counseling experience as both a mental health and substance abuse counselor. Some of those years were as a Psychiatric Medic in the military, including the Gulf War. I am committed to counseling those who are struggling with life adversities, trials and tribulations who are suffering from mood disorders, anxiety, grief, stress, substance abuse, relationship issues, and issues concerning parents of LGBT children, as well as other life stressors or disorders. I counsel mostly adults from ages 18 to 64. I use the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a primary approach to conduct therapy.

I have also spent over 20 years dealing sexual and non-sexual personal or relationship issues.
*****At this time I made the hard decision to cease taking insurance. I have many reasons for this but feel that it is the best choice for me at this time. My new fees will be in line with people who have medium to higher copays and no one has to meet a deductible. This simplifies the therapy process for all of us and I still seek quick solutions without sacrificing quality. My style is informal and your comfort is important to me as we deal with difficult, often painful subjects. This less formal billing process fits well with my style.

I work with adults and willing adolescents (ages 12 and up) through a variety of clinical approaches; facilitate couples counseling; and use hypnotherapy for smoking cessation, eliminating unwanted behaviors, improving sleep/relaxation, and releasing negative emotions.
I believe our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are inextricably linked. Facing life's problems can be scary, but doing so helps us to lead fuller, happier lives. I will assist you in developing the tools necessary for building self-awareness, resilience, and the ability to take control of your life and cope with problems as they arise. I will provide a consistent, compassionate, confidential environment where you can share your thoughts, feelings, and life goals openly and honestly.

I work with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families in a warm, safe, and supportive environment.
We all experience pain, stress, fears and heartache in life. These feelings are unpleasant, but they help us reach out to learn better ways. Better ways to relax, let go, communicate, teach, love, and live with joy and freedom. I have helped others for 24 years to find their power, to feel, live and love better. It is my purpose and my passion. If you and/or someone you care about is stuck, hurting, addicted or anxious, I can help. I am in recovery myself, so there is no judgement. I understand. Call me for a free phone consultation. If I am in session, leave your number and I will call you back.

We all want a harmonious and peaceful connection with our love ones. Sometimes we find ourselves at an impasse with our partners, children, friends, or co-workers. These impasses act as barriers that keep our relationships from growing or moving forward. Counseling /therapy gives a person the opportunity to see a "barrier" from a different perspective while acquiring new skills to move through the barrier or eliminating the barrier it self. Many times our underline intentions are good ones but our solutions to a problem may become barriers themselves. We may just need a different perspective or create a new way of behaving.

When you seek counseling, you’re seeking to change your life. You can do it. You’re already the expert about yourself. You possess the ability to change and to find solutions to the problems troubling you. But it’s not always easy.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
