Once their comfort level is established with me- the work can begin in a positive and practical manner for Adults and Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Multicultural Issues, Couples, Women's Issues, and Work Related Issues to name a few . I incorporate diverse therapeutic interventions to get my client to their goals. My goal is that my clients complete counseling feeling that they came out of therapy with the skills needed to continue to live life successfully.

Sometimes, difficult things happen in life, leaving you feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or even isolated. You might try to cope with these situations by using strategies you used before, only to realize they don't work as well anymore. As a result, you may find your distress has started to affect other areas of your life (school, work, relationships, etc.) As a Clinical Psychologist, I have a lot of experience in providing evidence-based care to individuals, couples, and families who have found themselves in such situations. I also specialize in providing services to military/veteran populations and juvenile offenders.

The most strained relationships can succeed if at least one partner commits to being courageous, cooperative, and creative in making small changes in their behavior.
"The quality of one's relationships determines the quality of one's life." The best investment we can make is improving our relationships. Clients seek guidance when they are feeling discouraged, dissatisfied, and disconnected in their primary relationships. Moving from disconnection to connection requires that clients bring a spirit of courage and cooperation to our conversations. I work with my clients to help them acquire self knowledge and develop skills to navigate the complexities of their close relationships. Understanding the difference between being an ally from being a competitor is key to building healthy, thriving relationships and ultimately, a fulfilling life.

Are you struggling with sexual or reproductive issues? Is your relationship with your partner(s) strained? I work closely with my clients using targeted strategies to generate change, manage fears and anxiety, and create new patterns of behavior that can help create the life you want to live. I have training in sex and trauma and work often with family systems and couples (I do individual work as well). I believe that there is strength in the systems we build for ourselves and progress can be more rapid and meaningful when everyone in the system works toward a common goal.

Whether it's your first time exploring therapy or you're resuming your self-growth, an active effort to change your life is commendable! My role in your journey consists of psychoeducation, supportive and reliable encouragement, and to extend an invitation to challenge old ways of thinking. I believe every individual has innate wisdom and valued assets that will be essential in achieving treatment goals. Through the years I have worked with a myriad of individuals seeking a change in their life. I have learned that people are much more than the problems they are faced with.

I’m about cutting through the noise and getting straight to what matters – your relationship.
Sex and relationships can feel like minefields. Maybe communication resembles a boxing match, intimacy is a distant memory, or there’s been cheating, shaking your world to its core. Feeling unlovable, wrestling with unconventional desires, or being scared of intimacy due to past traumas – it’s heavy stuff. It’s not just about mismatched Netflix preferences; it’s about feeling disconnected, unheard, or stuck in a situation you never expected. This is tough territory, and it can feel oh-so-vulnerable to address. But you don’t have to face it alone.

I provide individual psychotherapy for a broad range of adult mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, work stress and relationship concerns.
There is often not enough time in the day to accomplish our goals and care for ourselves. Responsibilities and commitments can be overwhelming. Raising children, pursuing career advancement, helping aging parents, retirement and coping with losses can leave us emotionally depleted. Such stressors and setbacks can feel even more difficult to manage with the state of affairs in the world. These are challenging times, and working with a skilled psychologist can help you navigate life with success. I am focused on helping you cope with the demands of the modern world through compassion, careful listening and comprehensive psychotherapy.

Although beginning therapy and delving deeper into the inner workings of your life can initially be fearful, it is a courageous act and an opportunity for growth and a new understanding of who you are. I believe that the foundation of any effective therapeutic work is a genuine therapeutic relationship based on trust, honesty, and empathy. I value creating a non-judgmental environment where you feel seen, accepted, and understood and can safely explore difficult emotions and relational patterns that may have previously felt too overwhelming to embark on alone.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
