I work with individuals, couples, and adolescents and have extensive experience serving highly diverse clients, including LGBTAQ clients.
WORK. LIFE. BALANCE. If you are driven and ambitious or a passionate creative, we can work together toward a balance among the professional, personal, and inner aspects of your life. You might also want to work with me to develop concrete social strategies to navigate the challenging interpersonal dynamics of a competitive workplace. My area of expertise is identity development. I have a strong background helping people manage issues related to personal and social identity, crisis/trauma, substance abuse, and the emotions that can underlie destructive behavior. Depending upon your needs and beliefs, I also address the role of spirituality.

I have experience working with people who experience anxiety, depression, and trauma as well as working on relationship issues with couples or families.
Accepting new clients. We all want to be understood but people who actually listen to us are rare. Many things in the world recently have increased our stress, causing conflicts and straining our relationships. Sometimes we all need a trustworthy, confidential person to talk to who will listen and understand us. For 20+ years, I've provided a safe space for people to talk about their anxiety, fears, and relationships. I listen attentively & without judgement. I work with you to find a way forward in your life. I welcome all people regardless of age, gender, race, sexual preference, gender identity, faith, or ability to pay.

Focus: college students and professionals struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or relationship issues. I'm trained in evidence-based therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which concludes that through mindful meditation, we can defuse ourselves from our thoughts and emotions, allowing us to commit to value-congruent actions in a way that brings us life purpose. I am also passionate about working with couples, helping them navigate through their struggles at any point in their relationship or deal with sensitive issues. Lastly, I'm a sex-positive Sex Therapist who welcomes individuals to explore their sexual issues in a safe and non-judgmental setting.

We all experience struggles from time to time that may leave us feeling overwhelmed, or numb and disconnected. Whether you are recovering from trauma, experiencing relationship difficulties, seeking insight, or needing a safe space to work through difficult emotions- therapy can help you forge a new way forward while collaborating with a caring clinician. Although starting therapy can feel a bit scary, it is a worthy process.

When depression or anxiety takes over and loneliness sets in, it is understandable to feel hopeless. Sometimes even relationships can lead to unhappiness. In therapy, we will work to address these issues. Therapy is a journey of learning about your past and present self. This self-exploration helps open the doors to a fulfilling and meaningful life. I work with clients to help them understand their strengths and struggles, which creates a platform to achieve their goals. In order to do that, I believe that the therapist-client relationship is a partnership and it is central to achieving significant progress.

As Forrest Gump's mother once said, "You've gotta put the past behind you before you can move on." While this idea sounds somewhat simple, putting the past behind us; especially a traumatic one, can be easier said than done. In my work with individuals, I embrace a philosophy that helps people explore their past experiences in order to better understand their present day ones. Additionally, because I believe God to be the source of all things; healing and hope included, I will utilize a faith-based approach in session if desired by prospective clients.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
