My ideal client would be anyone in elementary, middle school, high school or post-secondary or early employment. When asked or when I introduced myself, I would label myself as a "school doctor" (rather than a medical doctor) who specializes in all things related to school including, but not limited to academic expectations or challenges; getting along with others through social connections or behavior choices, emotional adjustment or coping with stressors. Usually there is a gap between where you are and where you would like to be and it is our job to work together and move towards reducing that gap.
It all starts with the working relationship that we build together. Taking the time to understand your unique perspective on the challenges and your goals for therapy are an important starting place. I lean towards solution-focused brief interventions as well as cognitive behavior interventions, but there are many other techniques that I could use to help.
I believe that if the problems you are experiencing were easy, you would have already figured out a solution and moved past them. It is not easy to feel stuck or out of place and your concerns and the goals you have will drive our therapy towards a solution.
