My name is Carey Schmidt, and I am an Associate Professional Counselor at Broad Oaks Counseling. I enjoy working with mostly children and adolescents, although I accept adults as well, who may be feeling anxious, depressed, or simply going through a tough time. My name is Dr. Lockett, I am a clinical therapist and also a non-profit organization( MIND Family & Social Services, Inc). We provide counseling and community intervention to adults and children. You were taught how to do Algebra, but not how to deal with the situation you find yourself in. I love working with teenagers and young adults. Hard to imagine? Being a young adult is hard. Living with a teenager is hard. The day in-day out struggles facing our adolescents is often the spark that ignites family turmoil and school issues. My extensive experience with adolescents/young adults gives me a rich background from which to draw. We will work together to identify possible patterns and problems, and develop solution-focused strategies. Though I do enjoy working with adolescents/young adults, I have many years of experience working with adults who are struggling with work issues, grief and loss, and other difficulties.

I understand that anxiety, ADHD, depression, trauma, parenting, family issues, stress, or co-dependent relationships, can be a struggle. I know that you are motivated to make positive changes in your life. Through self-reflection and self-discovery, I can guide you towards healing using creative approaches. Ignoring suffering doesn’t lead to better feelings, only less feelings. Simply pulling the weeds just leaves you with an empty garden. When we choose to water half truths and negative experiences we can cultivate feelings of sadness, anger, fear, hopelessness, shame, or unworthiness. I have over 12 years of experience in providing mental health services to individuals, families, and groups. I have studied social work at both Georgia State University and the University of Georgia, graduating with my Masters in Social Work in 2014. I have experience working with a variety of evidence based practices and curriculums, including Thinking for a Change (T4C), Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), Cognitive Behavior Interventions (CBI-SA), Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, and Strengthening Families.
