Everyone has their own stories and perspectives. Regardless of the issue, reclaiming a healthy life when feeling subjugated and repressed by the existing problems is difficult. Sometimes these problems manifest through anxiety,
depression
, trauma, addiction, and many more. These conditions can easily make you feel you don't have a place or a say in this world. Feeling dignified and validated is also challenging when you can't find a true voice. Therapy provides the time and space for healing, assisting you in regaining and empowering the inner strengths to overcome these difficulties.

**Now Accepting Clients** Hello I’m Sotheang “Terry” Khieu, I enjoy working with children, teens, and young adults. I offer a safe and nonjudgmental space where they can address and overcome their life circumstances while fostering good emotional wellness and healthy connection. When working with children and teens, I believe the old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Therapy is a collaborative effort and parents play an important role in helping children overcome whatever challenges that lead them to therapy. I like to engage parents as much as necessary while still respecting each client’s private boundaries.

My practice is emotion-focused and experiential type of psychotherapy. I also incorporate mindfulness meditation. It may help particularly with anxious and/or
depressed
people. I will be happy to work with those who do NOT feel the need of therapy per se, but feel like they are at an important time in their life. I welcome those who want to change themselves or their life even though they may feel somewhat happy where they are now. I truly feel gratitude toward the courage people take to start something NEW.

In the past 14 years I have become quite adept at working with clients who have trauma histories. Trauma can be major or it can be minor. I find that all human beings have experienced some form of trauma in their lives and this trauma often contributes to our current challenges. I use a method called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with many of my clients. This is a physiological method that is both quick and effective. So whether you are suffering from
depression
, anxiety, addiction, ect. I can help you both rapidly and dramatically.

Do you feel you’re surviving through life rather than living it? Has your anxiety and/or
depression
immobilized you? Since 2003, I have helped thousands of individuals and families overcome their behavioral health issues. My therapy is an evidence-based clinical program called Neuro-Emotive Cognitive Behavioral therapy (NE-CBT). Individuals are taught to change their thinking, feelings, and behaviors. In my clinical sessions, I teach skills and concepts while helping individuals adapt them into their lives so that they may experience relief from their symptoms. Through NE-CBT, you can ground yourself both inward and outward.

depression
, anxiety, bipolar disorder, relationship issues, life transitions, parenting, persistent chronic mental health issues, etc.
Do you struggle with communication, setting boundaries, or expressing your feelings? Are you feeling unmotivated, overwhelmed, or anxious? Do you bottle your emotions? Strong negative emotions can get in the way of the person you want to be and limit your life. You may find yourself spending more time dwelling on painful thoughts or memories that leave you filled with distress, self-doubt, and insecurity. It may also be that you worry about the future or perhaps your emotions or behavior have cost you relationships or opportunities.

How can I find a therapist in Connecticut?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
