Good change is still change and can be difficult to navigate alone. Are you someone who has come to the other side of survival mode but has not figured out how to thrive? Are old patterns of behavior still impacting your overall ability to have a healthy relationship with yourself and with others? Are you struggling to increase wanted behaviors and decrease unwanted behaviors? Are you able to be unmindful of worry? I help those who are doing “everything right” but aren’t living the life they want. The ones who have survived much but are not sure how to move and heal forward.

It's hard to find a therapist. Especially when you're not feeling your best. I applaud you for getting this far. Now it's time to invest in your relationship with yourself. I know what it’s like to feel alone with your problems. Maybe you have no one to talk to. Or maybe you feel bad making your friends, your family, or your partner listen to your problems again. I know what that feels like, and I’m here. I’m ready to listen. It’s time to let go of anxiety, sadness, frustration, anger, and shame. I want to process these things with you. You don’t have to go through this alone anymore.

Nobody is absent of a history that has not at some point brought about hurt, anger, grief, or sadness, and I believe that our current existence is a culmination of these past experiences, good or bad. The emotional outcome is oftentimes determined on our awareness, our interpretation, and how we have chosen to respond to these experiences.

Change is an inevitable part of life. Transitions are as natural as night and day. In nature we observe times when things move slowly without visable change - and then suddenly acceleration occurs followed by a transformation. I am a therapist/professional counselor who works with individuals ranging from childhood through late adulthood, couples, and families to assist them in finding personal growth, and work confidently through the natural transitions life brings. I recognize each client as unique and direct my counseling to the whole person; which attends to the body, mind, and spirit of each.

I enjoy working with individuals of all ages that are open to honesty, transparency and the process of change. It can be difficult to reach out to others for support. There are many facets of our lives that prompt the need to develop additional coping skills and boundaries to navigate through life. I am open to assist in that process.

It's easy to go through life feeling lost, alone, unseen, as if fallen through the cracks in a society that will erase, exclude, invalidate your experience and identity. And it's difficult to hold hope for the type of healing that would empower you to navigate life in the same broken system with a sense of peace with yourself and comfort in your body. Can you even imagine what that life could look like? We're often so entrenched in trauma and oppression from our experience, relationships, and systems that holding space for hope and change is inaccessible.

There's so much keeping us alienated from our true selves. Our lives are impacted by systemic oppression, generational trauma, cultural pressure, relationships, and even ourselves - interactions that cause harm and leave us feeling unsafe and unseen. The symptoms of these impacts, if not annihilating, leave us disconnected, discouraged, drained. I believe that therapy is a process of changing our relationship to ourselves and our experience so we can transform our presence in the world around us. We have much to heal from and the more we’re aware of our systems, selves, bodies, and triggers the better we are at living.

My passion lies in working with adults, adolescents, and families. My experience has been working on a variety of issues including trauma, mood d/o, anxiety, self-exploration and understanding how our thinking affects our feelings and behavior. I enjoy assisting patients with identifying messages taken from life experiences that drive our choices and behavior in order to give each individual a better understanding of self. It is this understanding that brings awareness of habituated behavior patterns, effective communication skills and balance in our daily lives. Skills that are useful to patients outside of the therapeutic setting.

Life is unpredictable, it's messy. We all are learning as we grow, and with the right skills we can learn to tackle any obstacles that are thrown our way. It's important for all of us to have someone to lean on, talk to, help us grow through personal struggles, and that is how I view the therapeutic relationship. Primarily, I work with clients 18+ who struggle with trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, grief, personality disorders, and overall life stressors.

Being a parent is a joy like none other. This may however become challenging if your child (especially a teenager) battles emotional, behavioral, eating disorders, lack of confidence or addiction problems. Teenagers with these issues often argue, have hard time expressing emotions, have disruptive behavior, sudden change in eating habits and conscious of their body image. They might resort to use of alcohol or other drugs to escape struggles. This does not mean you are a bad parent; it is just a difficult time for your family. You just need someone to walk you through during this difficult time.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Kansas City?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
