When the traditions of 'mental health' services are not meeting your needs-CALL. This could be a result of many reasons that pose as a barrier to meeting your emotional support needs in an office. Tele-Mental Health Therapy is a way to have the service come to you and allow you the ability to mold the service in a way that would be most convenient for you. I am a local to the Catskill Mountain Counties with previous experiences in the Rochester area, and have seen first hand the challenges our communities face. It is my hope to help our communities gain an "out of the box" emotional support experience.

Are you at a loss to understand yourself? Maybe you don't understand why you are depressed, anxious, prone to swings of mood, or having difficulty experiencing satisfying relationships. Do you want to suffer less? Like yourself and your life better? I listen, I care, and I help you understand how your experiences, and your thoughts related to those experiences, relate to your suffering (depression, anxiety, PTSD, mood swings, relationship difficulties, poor self-esteem, anger, shame). We collaborate to ID what you want to change in your life and how to achieve that, while accepting what can't be changed or controlled.

I understand that a person is more than a compilation of symptoms, and take into account a person’s history, current life experience and future goals to provide comprehensive treatment. I focus on issues relating to depression, role transitions and self-esteem. I provide a mostly psychodynamic approach to therapy, which allows a person to gain insight into their life experience. I believe psychotherapy is not a passive experience, and requires active participation by you. I am here to guide and help you realize your potential to live a more fulfilling life.

Your life is in transition, you are trying to hold it together on the outside, while inside you are falling apart. You feel like you have to live up to someone else's expectations or ideals and no matter what you do, it feels like you are failing. You feel added pressures to be everything to everyone: a perfect partner, parent, friend, or employee, and this pressure can feel daunting.

My main goal as a therapist is to provide an emotionally safe and therapeutic atmosphere for my clients. I’ve worked with individuals across the life span and have found that my work has been most impactful with people aged preteen through young adulthood. This time is full of so much change - internally and externally. Initiating therapy can be hard. With a mixture of empathy, support, and reflection, solutions will be developed together, helping to give you a life that is more fulfilled.

Let’s be real. Life is hard. It is messy and crazy, and sometimes, it feels out of control. Your house is a mess, the kids are screaming, the dog needs to go out, the garbage is overflowing, your boss needs this project done yesterday.... You just cannot get a moment to think straight. Then there’s that thought in the back of your mind that you are not doing enough, that you’re not enough. You’re questioning yourself and feeling overwhelmed. You have lost that spark, that thing that excites you, your true self. This is where therapy comes in. This is the time to take care of you!

Please email for a quicker response. Therapy is a collaborative endeavor that requires a deep sense of safety if clients are to risk creating the change they long for. I believe it is very important to cultivate a secure relationship. I use evidence-based therapies and use an eclectic blend of person-centered approaches to meet the needs of each individual. My goal is to meet each client where they are at, help them identify their innate assets and apply them to the areas of their lives where they are struggling. I believe that our mental and emotional health is just as important as our physical health.

Compassion Focused Therapists

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
