Life is beautiful but often/sometimes challenging. Some days we feel confident and happy while other days we may feel alone or overwhelmed. The clients I work with are seeking new tools, skills, techniques and interventions to help them feel better, more in control and empowered on a daily basis. I work with adolescents, young adults, adults and elders experiencing life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, low self-esteem and more. Everyone deserves to have a safe space, with unconditional support that allows them to be authentically themselves, always.

Virtual Assessments Available! You know life can be tough but everything seems harder for you. Relationships are like another language you don’t speak. You miss or don’t understand things that are obvious to others. It’s exhausting masking things others don’t find socially acceptable. Plus there’s the constant noise and stimulation. You eventually snap and shut down. You feel intense guilt and shame because you can’t do things that come so easily for others. You tell yourself something must be wrong with you but there’s a little voice that tells you there has to be a reason you struggle. If only you knew what that is!

Have you been combing the St. Louis area for a therapist, only to be discouraged because no one felt like the right fit? Been there. Have you been putting off seeing someone because the thought of laying on a chaise lounge, talking about yourself to a stranger across the room for an hour gives you heartburn? Been there. Have you been avoiding getting help because you feel like that means you actually have to acknowledge that you need it? Holy moly, I’ve been there. While I can’t speak to your experience, I understand that the decision to go to therapy can feel impossibly hard. Seeking therapy/treatment shouldn’t feel like a burden.

If you want a blunt and no sugar coating therapist look no further! Of course, I am honest with the intent of being kind and caring. The goal is to make the client a priority and implement self-care. Therapy is an investment and considered prevention for your own self-care needs. I have over 12 years experience, and worked in medical settings before that. I have experience in the medical health environment with a range of health issues from sufferers of heart attacks, stroke, women's & men's issues, and chronic illnesses. I implement an eclectic approach featuring CBT.

Waitlist for new clients
At times we need an outside perspective, and maybe just someone to listen to us, when life seems hard or complicated. My counseling style is warm, friendly, and, above all, genuine. I use a holistic/integrative therapy approach; in order to tailor treatment to each client's needs, I tend to pull from various tenets and modalities of evidence-based therapies. I focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and understand the mind-body connection; I am also trained in EMDR for trauma treatment.

Our problems, concerns and struggles in life often cannot be reduced to a simple diagnosis. As human beings navigating a constantly evolving and sometimes difficult world, we are accumulations of our experiences, patterns, skills, and desires. We sometimes need to enhance our abilities to cope or gain insight through seeing a different perspective, but we all have the innate ability to grow and heal ourselves. As a therapist, my goal is to assist you in attaining your desired outcomes and reaching a point of contentment in your life.

What's stopping you from being the mother and woman you want to be? Maybe it's total motherhood burnout. Constant overstimulation and overwhelm. Decision fatigue and mental load. Postpartum complications. Tantrums leaving you feeling helpless. Disconnection from your partner (and yourself). Your own past keeps resurfacing. Or maybe you've just lost sight of yourself, and who you want to be. Whatever the reason, there is help. I want to work with you to decrease overstimulation, overwhelm, and burnout, and support you in developing the coping skills to create a new path in motherhood, and in life!

Compassion Focused Therapists

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
