Every second of every day, the present moment is all we have. Yet, it is not uncommon to find ourselves stuck in memories of the past or fears of the future. Asking for help is not an easy thing to do - but you've made it this far! Depression, anxiety, fear, and self-doubt do not have to define you. You are full and complete being just as you are. If you are ready to reconnect or newly discover the innate strength, joy, and wisdom within you, keep reading! Healing is not linear, but together we will find your path to peace! After all, YOU are the expert of your own life. I would be honored to be alone for the ride.

Hello! To say my life has been interesting is an understatement. If it's unusual or a rare thing it's most likely happened to me or I've helped someone dealing with it. In order to be a well-rounded therapist, I have worked in state agencies, schools, and now for myself. I dedicated five years to fulfill contracts with the military (all over the world) to assist active duty and their families. It's very important to me to make sure your therapy is in tune with your needs. I don't do cookie-cutter therapy. I proudly call my business LHC and Company because I believe in teamwork with you and those I need to get the work done.

I believe that each person has a unique story. Our families, communities, and systems shape us, just as we influence those around us. With this understanding, I value a relational, client-centered approach to therapy. My goal is to partner with clients to alleviate suffering and foster self-examination, meaning making, and change. I seek to help clients unlock more fulfilling lives by establishing an understanding of both present context and past relationships.

Hey! Just wanted to check-in real quick to ask if you've been scrolling in an uncomfortable position for too long. (Yep, your jaw and shoulders might need to be unhooked, too.) Scrolling through tons of filtered search results can feel impossible, especially while trying to find help for yourself or someone you love. Give yourself a moment if you need it, okay? Okay, cool. Now that we have that taken care of.... Starting therapy can be scary, and awkward. (Look at you, taking this step!) I strive to create a space where your emotions and experiences, questions and dreams are witnessed and validated.

My ideal client is someone who is desiring to actively participate in therapy. Your issues, needs, and goals can be discussed in session, so you have direction during the therapeutic process. You might not know what you want or why, and that is okay. All you have to do is show up & participate. Your sessions are your time to discover the answers to those questions & hopefully piece together information to help your present-day self.

Depression, anxiety and addiction are often compatriots. They feed off each other and create a sense of hopelessness. Your struggle may be with substances (drugs/food), compulsive acts or obsessive thinking. However, they are often slightly different-shaped pieces to the same puzzle. Additionally, if you experienced trauma in your lifetime, you are even more susceptible to these disorders. Gratefully, there is hope and recovery for them! It is often not easy or quick, but it is doable. "God grant me the courage not to give up what I think is right even though I think it is hopeless." -- Chester Nimitz, WWII Fleet Admiral.

Looking for a therapist who is open, warm, transparent and genuine? Someone easy to connect with and talk to? As someone who’s been there, I understand how difficult it can be to take the first step to see a counselor. Your story is yours alone, but I would feel privileged to come along side you to help you understand yourself from a Biblical perspective, find freedom from the pain that holds you back and help you do the brave work of healing, growth, and change.

Compassion Focused Therapists

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
