Oftentimes, we spend so much energy trying to live up to roles, ideals, and expectations that we forget who we really are. Or perhaps, we never really had a chance to define our identity in the first place because it was given to us by other people, society or work expectations, or religious demands. These experiences can lead to depression and anxiety, conflict, burnout and exhaustion. At some point, there comes a reckoning when we can no longer continue this way. Even under the best of circumstances, immigrating to the United States can be an exceptionally stressful experience. I am a fully licensed psychologist who is committed to assisting individuals and families who are involved in the immigration process. I have conducted several hundred psychological evaluations, and have worked with individuals and families from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds on a range of immigration-related matters.

Over the past fifteen years as a therapist, one frequent obstacle I have come across is the commute people make for sessions. Having to take an extra hour (or more) of the day to commute, having to find child care, pick up kids from school, or find transportation in the first place often becomes a reason people don’t pursue therapy. Over the past year I began working with telehealth and moved towards seeing everyone from their own home to remove this barrier.

Living with difficulty and tension with your teen can be challenging and exhausting. Your world and theirs seem to collide on a daily basis. Seeing a counselor with your teen can cause a dynamic shift in your family. You’re dealing with guilt, anger, and frustration and fear the loss of the relationship you once knew. It’s common for teens to express their independence and autonomy, but this seems unhealthy. If your teen is acting out or having emotional problems, I help parents find innovative ways to help manage and rebuild loving relationships with them.
