How does anyone choose a therapist? The variety of options are daunting, and while many, many people have been to or go to a therapist, it is not a topic easily discussed, so it can be hard to find a recommendation. Many people resort to picking the person whose face looked nice, or went to a school they recognize, or work in a convenient location or accept their insurance. Often these techniques are sufficient, but when they are not it is a great loss, as it takes so much courage to look for a therapist in the first place.

우리는 과거를 돌이킬 수는 없지만 고통스러운 기억에서 자유로울 수는 있습니다. 우리의 뇌는 스스로 치유하는 능력을 가지고 있습니다. We as human beings, may encounter overwhelming challenges that can leave us feeling powerless or hopeless. The current emotional disturbance and negative thoughts often come from old self-beliefs, deeply rooted emotions from unresolved past experiences that are adverse or even traumatic. we all have inherent ability to build resilience and embrace challenges into growth and healing. I help my clients to reconnect with their resilience, improve insight into their issues, to ultimately find their own path to happiness, hope and a sense of wholeness.

The focus of starting a new therapeutic relationship is to create a safe space where you can unpack challenges, life transitions, stressors and grasp a better understanding of managing diagnosis including ADHD, depression and anxiety. I have also worked with professionals, new and established, to process stress, anxiety, increase interpersonal effectiveness and leadership presence. I have also worked with people with chronic illness, first-responders and caregivers.

As a trauma-informed therapist, my mission is to meet you where you are and walk alongside you until you get to where you want to be. I enjoy utilizing a holistic approach to healing and respect both eastern and western philosophies towards balancing the mind, body, and spirit. I love working with clients who feel like no one "gets them" and who are willing to do the work to make change. I believe the key to building trust is to listen with an open mind and an open heart without judgment. It takes courage to reach out for support. I hope to help you feel empowered and supported to accomplish your goals for therapy.

Accepting new clients! Do you feel stressed, overwhelmed, and ready for change? We might be good fit if you want to understand why you feel miserable or anxious despite "doing it all". Maybe you are compassionate to everyone in your life, except YOU. Maybe you have been in talk therapy and you are feeling stuck or ready to try something different. I help my clients move beyond talk therapy toward healing recurring negative patterns in their life, anxiety, depression, anger, overwhelm, relationship issues, trouble getting new habits to stick, compulsively using external things to feel better (i.e. work, people, alcohol), and more.

I know that therapy works from my own life's journey, and I have confidence therapy will work for you. Now the task is finding the right fit. I want to meet with you for a "no cost," 15 minute chat to see if I am a good fit for the situations in your life that are motivating you to seek help.

Compassion Focused Therapists

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
