You are sitting in therapy watching your therapist's lips move while she tells you for the fourth time that her cousin is gay and just got a “very butch” haircut. You can’t help thinking, “She just doesn’t get it.” He misgenders you, or forgets your partner’s pronouns, she pulls out Food and Mood, and he talks about how apple cider vinegar might be the solution to all your problems. She hasn't lived in a fat body. He hasn’t experienced homophobia or heterosexism from the inside. What initially seemed like a small hill to climb in your relationship has started to feel like a mountain.

Life can be very challenging at times. Often, we find ourselves in places, wondering how did I get here? Or not again? Although the details may be different, you will find repeated themes in your life. The first step in solving any problem is to identify the problem. We will work together to gain an understanding of: why you are where you are at this time in your life, what you would like to change, and learn the tools needed in order to effectively make the changes and establish long and short term goals.

Independent of my job at MGH/Harvard Medical School as a clinical psychologist, I see clients in my private practice (Psychological Care and Consultancy, PLLC). I provide video telehealth only. I have extensive experience treating adults and 65+ suffering from anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, trauma, grief and loss, adjustment difficulties, low self-esteem, stresses associated with relationship and family conflicts, and educational and occupational concerns. I also have experience working with health professionals, high-functioning autism, late teens, and military service members. I am licensed in MA and RI.

My goal is to help you manage life’s challenges. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Social Thinking are some of the strategies that I use to support my clients. I have extensive experience working with school teams. I have supported adults, teens, and children in their struggles with anxiety, eating disorders, the psychological aspects of cancer, depression, social problems, attention deficit disorder, and learning disabilities. I also want to help people who care for their loved ones during times of illness.

Bottom line, I believe we are all here to learn all we can during our time here in the Earth school. I seek to serve couples, families and individuals addressing life adjustment issues including relationship conflict, developmental concerns, functional issues related to head or brain injury and efforts to increase self-actualization. I have been practicing as a licensed psychologist for more than thirty-five years; I have provided care and supervised services in mental health and psychiatric hospitals as well as correctional settings and hold specializations in forensic psychology and neuropsychology.

Zarinah is very passionate about helping alleviate symptoms of mental illness while promoting health and wellness especially for Black and Brown communities. It has been her dream to deliver outpatient therapy to clients who look like her. Zarinah modifies her therapeutic approach to each client's specific needs. Her educational background includes a Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) from Regis College in Weston MA, and a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts.

Life can have a way of tossing us around and undermining our sense of self and belonging. The focus of my practice is people who have ADD/ADHD or symptoms related to ADD/ADHD such as weak Executive Function which can lead to Anxiety and related Depression. These challenges can leave us feeling unmoored, uncertain, unhappy and unfulfilled often struggling to find our way. I specialize in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders. OCD is characterized by obsessions and compulsions and can cause significant distress and impairment in functioning. An estimated 2-5% of the population, both children & adults, can be affected by OCD. Treatment consists of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness. These treatment modalities can be highly effective in the reduction of symptoms.
