I want to start by saying that I truly hold a solid belief that each and every human deserves to feel happiness, love, excitement, contentment, and ultimately to achieve their dreams, desires, goals, and best-selves! I implement an integrative approach, with a craving to help. Whether that assistance be with a child struggling with ADHD, an individual learning to cope with anxiety/depression, a couple struggling, or an entire family in need, I am devoted to seeking out and destroying the obstacles, strongholds, cognitive distortions, or whatever the “problem” is that is impeding their ability to live happy, healthy, fulfilled lives.

I work with adults, seniors, children and families. If you (or a loved one) are feeling depressed, anxious, or have sleep disturbances, low self-esteem, relationship issues or are in crisis, I provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment in which to explore self-defeating patterns or incoherent beliefs to help you to restore harmony to your life. Frequently small changes can have a big impact

My ideal client is one who commits to therapy and is willing to allow me to help them learn how to face their issues and resolve them. I believe in honesty, even if it means telling someone things difficult to hear. We must have honesty in order for me to help them help themselves. I want every client I see to leave therapy feeling as if they are a better version of themselves and enjoy their life. I tell my clients that my job is to work myself out of a job. There is a quote from C.S. Lewis that I feel describes my therapeutic perspective. "Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny..." - C. S. Lewis

The Holidays are hard for everyone. Need to talk? If you're looking to improve your overall mental wellness, look no further. I earned my Masters and Educational Specialist degrees in Counseling from Harding University in 2014. I earned my LAC in 2023. Mental health has always been of the utmost importance to me and, with my natural gifts of empathy, genuine compassion, and open-mindedness- helping others achieve overall wellness is my greatest passion. Compassion Focused Therapists

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
