I strive to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgemental, and empathic therapeutic environment. I believe that everyone is uniquely different and may not respond to a one size fits all therapeutic modality. I believe in treating everyone with respect and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific goals and desires. I tend to work with clients from a strength-based, positive, and affirming perspective.

A part of you wants to reach out for support and a part of you doesn’t. This is totally understandable because finding the “right fit” with a therapist in this day and age seems like more work then you have time for, and can also be anxiety provoking. Often times making a human connection can be challenging especially with a therapist. I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone to any therapy work. She was the go-to for her friend group whenever there was an issue or a problem, and once she realized she could make a career out of supporting and encouraging others, she knew she had found her path! I specialize in working with adults who suffer from symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, depression, mood instability, stress and anger management. Leslie Middleton Walters, EdD, is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with 26 years of experience in the mental health field. Leslie believes that it is always best to reach out to someone that can assist with de-escalating fears and re-establishing hope, and provide encouragement to persevere during the dark times. Her primary goal is to help others face their challenges and fears and become the person that they want to be through the development of lifelong coping skills, in an environment that is accepting and open to individualized thoughts and ideas.

My commitment is to facilitate your growth and healing in a supportive and collaborative relationship designed to meet your unique needs. As a seasoned therapist I listen and seek to understand your world using technical skills as well as the wisdom and intuitive knowing that I bring from over four decades of experience in private practice and agency settings. I have a passion for my work and I function with compassion and caring. I continue to pursue learning and skill building including cutting edge research on the brain and tools to generate healing and change.

​I have been in the recovery field for 7 years and have seen a wide range of issues related to addiction. Addiction in itself can be a traumatic event as it causes us to go against our morals. Addiction often contributes to shame and can produce anger, anxiety& depression as well as a wide range of other issues. I have created treatment plans for every issue my clients have presented with as related to addiction. Each client has a different set of issues, needs and goals so I take a person-centered approach to best meet those needs. It's important to identify our strengths and capitalize on these rather than focusing on the problem.

Why therapy? There are many answers to this question. It's a question I will ask when we first begin and you may or may not fully know the answer. If you are unsure at first, that’s okay. I promise we will figure it out together and by the end of our work you will have discovered why therapy was exactly what you needed in this moment of your life. And if you come to me knowing exactly what you need and why therapy is the way forward, I promise we will work very hard together so that you achieve what you desire.

I provide psychotherapy for adults and teens from all social backgrounds. I integrate a variety of therapeutic methods, based on the needs of the individual client. I believe in focusing on the strengths and resources of the client and working in a collaborative partnership. The therapeutic relationship is most effective when the client feels that they are being treated in a respectful, nonjudgmental, and compassionate manner.

My practice is predicated on the idea that we all have within us, the capacity for healing and self-actualization. At times our life paths can become difficult and we become lost or may lose sight of our goals and values. Our therapeutic work will focus on rediscovering or recreating that path, with me as your guide. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a PhD resident in General Psychology, it is my privilege to walk alongside people who are suffering from relational trauma and interpersonal dysfunction. I am confident that there is freedom from chaotic cycles of brokenness, disconnection and pain. My therapeutic focus centers on severe relational trauma stemming from narcissistic abuse, substance abuse, sexual addiction and codependency. My clinical practice focuses on healing from relational trauma, high-conflict partnerships, hostile communication patterns and coparenting/divorce challenges.
