Do you feel like your physical sensations and emotions are too big (consuming rage, grief, or disgust) or too small (numbness, disinterest) for the situation you're in?
With trauma work, healing often begins when we share deeply held, avoided beliefs out loud in a therapy relationship. Doing so lets you (1) identify patterns that exist in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, (2) explore how trauma may have shaped these patterns, and (3) feel empowered to step out of trauma-responses to build your life with intention.

I work with adults and elders (65 and up) who are seeking support with trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, bereavement, death and dying, life transitions, and general life stress.
Art therapy is a useful tool for personal insight and self-growth, and we can discuss in session to see what works for you. You absolutely do no need art materials or any formal skills to do art therapy! Typical sessions tend to have a combination of both art and talk therapy and can be tailored to your goals and preferences.

In the past I have worked with adolescents in schools, advocated for children in the foster care & grief based groups while I now volunteer with end of life work.
I believe counseling is a component of overall healthcare. Through the challenges of life people need an accepting place to share their story and perspective in order to gain insight into their challenges and strengths. I will provide a warm, compassionate presence to people from birth to geriatrics. I earned my Masters degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University with specialty training in Play Therapy, Activity Therapy, Child Parent Relationship Training, Group Therapy, and Geriatrics. There I worked with age groups ranging from young children to adults seeking counseling for various life and mental health challenges.

Naturally, unresolved trauma and unacknowledged grief will call attention to themselves.
Most find it challenging to be open and present to their moment-to-moment experience of life, especially while relating to others. This is due to the disconnecting pain and numbness of unresolved life experiences. I utilize somatic therapies, IFS, KAP, attachment therapy, and mindfulness counseling to help facilitate an organic resolution process.

I often work with grief, loss, relational wounds, and the impact of trauma.
I am a therapist who believes that people make sense, even when their lives feel messy or confusing. Many of the individuals and couples I work with come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why certain patterns keep showing up. My hope is to offer a calm, supportive space where we can gently explore what you’re carrying and what you might need in order to feel more at ease. My approach is attachment-based and trauma-informed, which means I pay close attention to how early relationships and life experiences shape the way we connect, cope, and see ourselves.

Throughout life we experience many areas of loss, grief, pain, and trauma.
Making the initial phone call to seek counseling can be one of the most difficult things to do. I have worked with many clients who initially avoid counseling because of fear, shame, or anxiety around sharing their experience. My hope is to be a safe place to process the ups and downs of life. If you are unsure, be encouraged that you have already taken the first courageous step by looking. By taking the next step, you will find that there is hope on the other side.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
