I use a strength-based perspective and a wide range of approaches, such as trauma-focused interventions, CBT, solution-focused treatment, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative therapy, and mindfulness.
Whatever you are going through, you shouldn't have to go through it alone. Sometimes, we encounter barriers that can keep us from living the joyous life we deserve. Maybe those barriers include: depression, anxiety, or trauma reactions. Perhaps you need help on building your skills, strengths, resiliency, and emotional awareness to cope with the various challenges throughout life. Or, maybe you want the tools to align your life with your values and vision. Even though painful, difficult experiences are inevitable, that does not mean we can't live our best lives, or be our most authentic and fulfilled selves.

I have an extensive background in mindfulness, trauma work, and cognitive behavioral strategies that I will cater to your needs.
Life can be difficult to navigate and it can feel like everyone has a different opinion on what we need to feel better. My goal as your therapist is to help you find your own way. No matter what your current struggles are, it is my belief that aiding you in discovering what helps you as an individual is going to be the most beneficial. I will explore your strengths, patterns, and barriers in order to identify your unique path towards change and healing. The clients I generally see are teenage, adolescent, young adult, and adult (16-50).

I am a psychiatrist who specializes in psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Hello! Embarking on a course of therapy can feel incredibly vulnerable. The demands placed on your time, energy, trust and finances are significant. On top of that, many people come to therapy after having already experienced a variety of invalidating interactions when attempting to open up to others. For that reason, I am particularly sensitive to the importance of hearing your story with curiosity, empathy, open-mindedness and humility. Therapy works best when you are in the driver’s seat and my role is to support your agency by guiding you towards making the healthiest choices possible based on YOUR identity, values, and needs.

Some of the work we can do together based on CBT could look like facing our fears instead of avoiding them, learning coping/grounding skills to calm our body/mind, learning distortions in thinking that are creating issues, learning problem-solving skills to cope with stressful situations and learning how to develop self-confidence in one’s abilities.
I love working with teens, younger and middle-aged adults, and males from different populations and cultural backgrounds who are going through difficult life changes such as independence exploration, career path discovery, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. I believe healing takes place in a safe and supportive environment where individuals can be their true selves. The way I do therapy is based on the value of learning “Once we learn something you can’t unlearn it”, and growth “by learning what skills you have or want to learn to become your true self”.

We can look at the behaviors and address what coping mechanisms they are for and attempt to change those cognitive behaviors and the perspectives around them.
You're struggling with past traumas. Maybe you don't even realize that a lot of your frustration, anxiety and depression and current struggles are linked to past traumas. It can be overwhelming dealing with intense emotions and identify the why behind it to change your life. I would love to work with you and address some of the emotions and struggles that you have been dealing with. Have there been some past events in your life that have fundamentally changed you as a person?

I primarily pull from DBT and CBT tools to help you reframe negative thoughts, accept and cope with the things you cannot change, and make sustainable adjustments in your life that can lead to a larger impact in your wellbeing.
So often we experience stress, fear, sadness, and other conflicting emotions that lead to the development of dysfunctional, maladaptive behaviors and emotions. These patterns influence our own self-worth and can influence our ability to form relationships with others. I work to foster a safe environment for you to be able to identify and process through your emotions and make changes in the way you cope with those emotions. Creating this clear understanding can help to strengthen your relationship with your inner self, and to better communicate with others to manage relational conflict.

At times, I may also include a cognitive behavioral approach.
I will actively use my training and experience to help you meet your needs & goals. Successful treatment is a direct result of mutual efforts, honesty, respect, and collaboration. Life is full of transitions. Many transitions require skill to navigate. Some happen easily and others require thought, planning and occasionally outside help. I regularly help people manage depression, anxiety, life & work transitions, relationship problems, the processing of and recovery from trauma, and developmental issues throughout the lifespan.

It has been my experience that evidence-based approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Supportive Psychotherapy, and Motivational Interviewing produces successful results.
My patients are usually hard working adults who have run into some tough times or are experiencing difficult emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and addictions. I focus on using a strengths-based and harm reduction approach, which views each person as an individual with unique strengths and challenges. Using this approach values the person and facilitates a customized treatment plan for the individual. My role is not to judge you or your behaviors, but to act as an independent consultant for improving your mental well-being and quality of life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
