I will employ an eclectic therapeutic approach, with an emphasis on CBT intervention techniques.
We are all coming out of a storm, in the middle of one right now, or looking at clouds beginning to form on the horizon. But the good news is that we don't have to go through any of that alone. There is help, and there is hope. The way things are today is not the way things will remain forever. Whether you are facing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, addiction, spiritual questions, life transitions, military or post-military challenges - let's make sense of this part of your story, together.

I use a combination of talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, strengths-based therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy to help clients achieve their goals.
Are you feeling more stressed now than ever before? If you struggle with anxiety or depression, you may feel distressed and overwhelmed on a daily basis. If you are trying to cope with loneliness, isolation, or anxiety about the future, it can feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. Or perhaps your child or teen is struggling with new transitions, challenges at school, friendship issues, ADHD, or a serious health diagnosis, and you are unsure of how to help. If these stressors are negatively impacting your quality of life, consider turning to a trusted therapist for support.

My therapeutic style utilizes expressive arts therapy with DBT, CBT, and beyond.
Many times we navigate through the world feeling lost, alone, and even scared. We may tell ourselves that "nobody understands me," "nobody loves me," or "people have it much worst than I do, so why do I deserve to be kind to myself." Many of us tell ourselves some sort of variation of these things from time to time. Some of us may tell ourselves these statements on the daily basis. Come join me as we explore your relationship with yourself as well as your relationship with others.

I am trained in Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization (EMDR) and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), and combine elements of Internal Family Systems – or “parts” work – with strengths-based, cognitive-reframing approaches.
Our experiences shape us, and it is healing to explore, identify, and understand the formative and relational dynamics that influence us in the present. Together, we can challenge or reaffirm core beliefs, process trauma, work through difficult patterns and triggers, and learn to recognize and safely feel emotions. I believe that the role of the therapist is to provide a safe base camp for an individual to discover a path to their own healing. I want to help you explore and find change through therapeutic connection and relationship.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
