I have intensive training in DBT, CBT, mindfulness, playtherapy, individual, family and multi-family therapies.
Welcome to my practice. I believe that reaching out for help is a brave first step in the process of improving your life. I have been working with adults, adolescents and children for over 20 years Some of the the problems I treat are difficulties with mood regulation, anxiety, depression, reproductive issues, loss, relationship issues, school difficulties, sibling issues and parent-child struggles. I've seen that patterns of painful living can be greatly improved when we achieve a more balanced life.

I integrate exploratory, psychodynamic techniques with cognitive behavioral work so that insights can be best translated into long-lasting, satisfying change.
Life presents us with challenges; everyone experiences a degree of distress or worry along the way. Psychotherapy provides a safe, supportive partnership in which you can begin to understand your experiences, identify areas you'd like to change, build on strengths, and ultimately make choices to create a greater sense of well-being. Many individuals I work with are intelligent, accomplished people who feel they could benefit from a deeper exploration of the questions they are encountering with respect to career, relationships or personal identity. Additionally, I have an interest in working on issues specific to artists and creative professionals.

I believe that personal change takes courage. As a psychologist, I feel that it is my responsibility to guide an individual through this path of change and growth. In my practice I generally use cognitive behavioral techniques and strategies to bolster my client's strengths and help them learn new coping skills in place of ones that have begun to falter. My approach is individualized to your needs and personal goals. I work in both short-term and long-term contexts depending on the patient's needs and preferences.

Depending on your needs, I may use modalities like Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness practices to address your challenges.
My practice is a nurturing space to unpack your feelings, attitudes, and stressors. As you embark on your journey of self discovery, we’ll explore your identity, understand intergenerational patterns, and deconstruct mental health stigma together. I identify as first-generation, child of immigrants, mixed race, and Latina. As a therapist, I’m here to support clients with different and similar experiences, including first generation BIPOC/LGBTQ+ adults, children of immigrant parents, and migrants. I also work with clients to improve self esteem or address symptoms of ADHD.

My counseling approach integrates Cognitive-behavioral, Existential theory, and the Internal Family Systems model. I believe that we are drawn towards our personal version of authenticity. Getting to know yourself can be a transcendental experience, and it lays the foundation for creating healthy connections with others. I am always drawn back to the phrase in the safety video before a plane takes off: put your own oxygen mask on before helping others. We cannot build strong relationships with others until we build a solid foundation with ourselves.

My therapeutic orientations vary from individual Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, and Executive Functioning for ADHD, along with Couples Therapy for individuals who are hoping to improve and/or repair their relationships.

Through my education and training I have learned to help individuals, couples and families move from a place of self-doubt, depression, anxiety, and shame toward self-actualization and greater authenticity so they may feel truly comfortable (and powerful) in their own skin through the use of CBT, DBT, and Family Systems Therapy.
Sometimes it feels like the world conspires against our authenticity. We often face pressure to be someone we’re not, or to paper over our complex identities for others’ comfort and ease of understanding. I was born in Austin, Texas to a Caucasian mother and African-American father before I was adopted by my Jewish parents at 2 days old. I faced judgement and pressure to choose binary race and class identities, whether they suited me or not. Navigating these pressures helped me deepen my empathy for others, my curiosity about other people, and a sensitivity to anyone who feels unheard, disregarded, or misunderstood.

Our entire practice uses the same overall CBT approach, but with each therapist using their expertise to tailor your treatment specifically to you.
When other people look at you, they think you have it all together, but inside you feel like an imposter barely keeping your head above water. Any positive thoughts are quickly replaced by insecurity and self-doubt. If you did everything right, why do you still feel so lost? You are more than your worst trait, your darkest thought, or your biggest failure. It doesn’t have to be this hard. Through therapy with us for your anxiety and depression, you can develop a deeper connection with and understanding of yourself, communicate with less stress, and experience more confidence in your personal and professional relationships.

Although I have a certificate in psychoanalysis from NIP, my work is informed by the needs of the individual and I use various modalities in treatment. I have extensive experience in working with trauma, both recent and past, and have found that my EMDR training is very useful. Cognitive/Behavioral techniques are particularly helpful in working with clients who are experiencing anxiety or depression. In some instances medication might be helpful and we would discuss a referral to a psychiatrist. I am not doctrinaire, and work with a client to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
