I integrate several modalities into treatment such as EMDR, EFT, Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic, and Mindfulness practices.
I work with adolescents, adults, couples and parents struggling with overwhelming feelings, infertility, birth trauma, pregnancy/postpartum issues, trauma, anxiety, depression or general life obstacles. I believe that the way you view yourself, your relationships with others, and the world is a gateway to the therapeutic experience. My clients would describe my warmth, compassion, use of humor and realism as a recipe for connection and safety within our relationship. I am an active participant during sessions and willing to be vulnerable to move my client to a place of change.

I primarily use ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy); and also use an integrative and eclectic approach utilizing elements of CBT, and existential theories.
It’s hard being human. In our short window of time on earth we will have moments of great joy and beauty, but also experiences of sadness, stress, and pain. We are confronted with a difficult problem - how do we deal effectively with a reality that spans all different feelings and experiences? Often we deal with them in ineffective ways that leave us feeling worse off than when we started. There is hope, however. Together we can work together to recognize the patterns you're stuck in, learn skills to manage difficult thoughts and feelings more effectively, and work towards a rich and meaningful life.

My orientation blends psychodynamic, relational, cognitive behavioral, mind-body, trauma informed and mindfulness approaches to help people understand, accept, change and heal.
Life can sometimes feel and be very complicated. As a psychotherapist in private practice for 25 years, I work with adults, adolescents, families and couples. The way I approach working with people is to create a compassionate, intelligent, non-judgemental, therapeutic space where a person can feel safe, heard and understood. A person can then be more at ease with talking about their concerns and problems in an authentic and meaningful way. I welcome people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and family structures.

I use and integrated approach including Schema therapy, Internal Family Systems and "parts" work, Chairwork, Emotion Focused Therapy and CBT among others.
Consider the messages you learned from your family growing up, and how those life lessons found their way into the way you view the world. How do they inform the way you see yourself? What is their impact on how you connect to others in relationships? In our work together we uncover deeply held beliefs about others and the world that may be causing us to repeat unhelpful patterns of behavior. Repeating these patterns can cause us to feel a myriad of negative feelings- confusion, frustration and loneliness. I aim to create a warm, empathic and caring relationship that allows you to feel heard and understood.

I have extensive training in both psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
I am a clinical psychologist providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults. I believe therapy is most effective when we work collaboratively to deepen your understanding of yourself, current or longstanding problems, and related emotions. I aim to provide a therapeutic environment that is welcoming, non-judgmental, and respectful, while helping my patients to find healthful ways forward. With my younger patients, I work closely with parents, guardians, and educators alike.

I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Motivational Interviewing - two highly effective, evidence-based practices.
Everyone has dreams that they just haven't been able to achieve. Maybe you're having trouble with motivation, or you don't know where to start. Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or depression. Or wondering whether your drinking is getting in the way. I help people remove or overcome the obstacles keeping them from being their best selves. Therapy with me is a collaborative partnership where we work together to get you where you want to be.

My integrative approach utilizes mindfulness, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, cognitive-behavioral tools, interpersonal psychotherapy, and trauma-specific interventions.
You’re not feeling like yourself and struggling in your relationships. Maybe you've experienced loss or a significant life transition. You'd like to feel more connected to yourself and with those around you, but you've found life to be painful and confusing with unexpected challenges and transitions. If you're feeling disconnected, out of control, anxious, or grieving, you are not alone. If you're ready to lean into change and be curious and compassionate with yourself, therapy can support you in strengthening your relationship with yourself and in building safe, authentic, clarifying, and fulfilling connections with others.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
