I primarily practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and dialectical approaches.
I understand how stressful life is and how incredibly difficult asking for help can be. In my nine years of working in the counseling field, I have learned that it is essential that the people I work with feel comfortable talking about the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that are negatively impacting their quality of life. I embrace the ideals of patience, empathy, understanding, and the absolutely essential element of humor to help people overcome the obstacles that keep them from achieving their goals.

I utilize a person-centered and holistic approach with the integration of cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and art therapy.
I enjoy working with clients who want to be in therapy voluntarily. Even if they are guarded, not wanting to change, and struggling with the commitment of therapy, as long as they want to be there, I enjoy working with them. Their issues, needs, and goals can be from various mental health concerns, but as long as they fit into my scope of practice, I aim to be the guide they need to achieve their goals. I am there to provide them with a safe and non-judgmental space for them to truly be themselves and allow them the opportunity to develop their strengths and better understand themselves.

My approach blends both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic theories with teachings from philosophy, mythology, and Jewish mysticism.
If you're looking for fluff free, no nonsense counseling, reach out to me. It's all too easy to lose touch with the things we stand for, as well as with the things that mean most to us. You were whole at one point, which means a path to sanity exists that is waiting to be rediscovered. Yet these behaviors holding you back have been heavily reinforced over time. The change ahead is not going to be easy or comfortable, but you don't have to face it alone. Past clients have told me that my ability to break down situations and clearly explain relational dynamics helped them to gain new insight into their histories and functioning.

My therapeutic approach is primarily cognitive-behavioral, experiential, and psychodynamic.
Are you looking to inspire hope and change in your life? In this day and age with so much happening in the world, it is nice to have a safe professional therapist in your life who will listen to your needs and help support you in moving from where you are to where you want to be. It can be hard to choose a therapist from such a large pool of qualified people. Chemistry matters and so does many years of experience. With over 25 years of providing therapy to clients with many different mental health issues and addictions, you can feel assured that you are in competent, trusting hands.

Everyone has moments in life where they feel completely overwhelmed. These moments are often filled with uncertainty and lack of direction. Therapy may feel like a last-ditch effort to leave ‘the stuck place.’ Whether you are just beginning therapy, or have tried multiple therapists in the past, I am willing to help you explore different pathways to get around feeling stuck. I encourage my clients to feeling comfortable expressing themselves, whether it’s a laundry list of things, or just a few – we can unpack them together without judgment.

In a first meeting with a client, one of the most important parts of the session is to understand not only what brings a person into the office, “the problem” so to speak, but also to build out a framework of what the client believes will be the solution. What will it look like when things are better? Rather than pathologizing, I prefer to focus within the wellness model of counseling, identifying strengths and resources available to contribute toward a person’s personal counseling goals.

I don't know that I could choose my ideal client. I have worked with both individuals and families. In this field, you do not have the luxury of choosing who you would like to work with or who is your " ideal" client. I just began working with children, and I have been enjoying every second of it. Every single person who comes through the door or logs on for their sessions through telehealth, keep an open mind, be open to suggestions, and view everything as a learning experience that will further your career and expand on your knowledge.

Life can be challenging but it doesn't have to stay that way. In fact, I believe that through life’s hurdles, we develop resourceful ways to cope. That's why in my practice I aim to highlight what has worked in the past as well as explore behaviors that are no longer beneficial. I am deeply passionate about being an active participant in your growth and reaching a place where we are no longer just surviving, we're thriving. I specialize in anxiety, trauma, addiction, and eating disorders. These things can be challenging but I am committed to addressing them in a collaborative manner.

Helping you understand the root of the problem while working towards healing, in a safe and warm environment is a focus of my therapeutic model. This helps positive change become possible. You may be experiencing worry, self-blame, judgement or feeling not as happy as you would like. Do you want to feel better, but are unsure of what steps to take, or if the change is possible? These feelings may affect your self-esteem, mood, and other areas of your life. It's important that the focus is not just about changing your behaviors, but about feeling better.

Therapy assists in uncovering the true self. Learning how to recognize feelings enables people to understand themselves more effectively. During therapy individuals learn how to identify feelings and take control of their own lives. By learning how to pay attention to instincts and begin to challenge beliefs individuals can grow instead of stagnate. We promote personal growth and the establishment of healthy communication so our clients can achieve serenity within themselves.

If you are skeptical about psychotherapy because so many therapists endlessly talk about feelings, dwell on the past, or have abstract theories that only they understand, then my sensible approach is for you. I teach you ideas to help you cope with difficult situations, challenging people, unfair burdens, acts of disrespect, disapproval, rejection, and states of deprivation. I teach you ideas and strive to get you in and out of therapy. In my view therapy should be problem-focused, efficient, sensible, and teach you how to help yourself. I do not want you to grow dependent on a psychotherapist but rather learn how to depend on you.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
