The foundation of counseling should be a healthy therapeutic relationship between counselor and client. I help individuals learn about themselves and get more of an understanding of why they feel what they feel. Working with an individual to establish what and why when solving a particular problem should be a collaborative effort. I empower the individual by helping them realize that they do have the tools to be able to handle what life throws at them. We may not be able to control the world around us but we are in control of our own decisions and how we react.
Individuals dealing with addiction tend to have destructive negative thinking that bring on things like depression and anxiety. By using Cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, I look to help the individual explore the reasons behind why they use, and help them identify self-defeating thoughts which may often fuel the addiction.
