I became a therapist because I believe people can do hard things, especially with the right support alongside them. I work with children, teens, and young adults who deserve for someone to meet them where they are at, and empower them to make positive change. I also believe therapy for children and teens is best done with the whole child and whole family in mind, and can provide family sessions as needed.

Feeling lost and not sure where to turn? Have you endured distressing relationships or incidents of sexual assault? Maybe you feel alone, isolated and misunderstood. Are you tired of encountering bureaucratic hurdles within the system and your trauma stunting your ability to become who you are meant to be? Do you often find yourself burdened by uncertainty regarding future events, or constantly protecting others at the expense of your own emotional well-being?

Helping individuals and couples live a better life is my passion. I start with an understanding of where you are now and the challenges you are facing. I will help you put a plan in place to help you move forward. This might mean learning how to set boundaries; working through a loss or life transition; changing patterns of behavior that no longer serve you; taking time for yourself to avoid long-term issues that can affect your mind and body; decreasing anger, anxiety, stress and depression; improving communication; treating insomnia.

Do you worry all the time? Do worry, stress or fear interfere with your life? Are you your own harshest critic, never able to please yourself, feeling like you're never good enough? Is depression taking the joy out of your life? You might be feeling like you just can't take it anymore; like you just don't have the energy to try anymore. What might your life be like if you could silence your inner critic? If you could just stop feeling so irritated or angry? To wake up refreshed and eager to face the day?

Listening to what you say, and to what you don't say is very important to me. I am often told that talking to me was the very first time that a client had their feelings accepted. Helping others honor the unique perspective with which they see the world is the best way to enable a person to trust their feelings, to value their experiences, and to lead a richer life. I do believe that leopards can change their spots! I consult with psychotherapy and life-coaching clients in my office and also by phone across the country.

There are many things that get in the way of people living more fulfilled lives. Depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, troubled relationships, trauma, and behavior problems can cause tremendous emotional pain for individuals, their families, and friends. As a fully licensed Clinical Psychologist I use my training, experience, empathy, and understanding of how the mind works to help create a safe, nonjudgmental space where a collaborative and therapeutic process can occur. The end result is often a fuller understanding of the origins of emotional distress and a new freedom from unsatisfying patterns of living.

We all have a story to tell, we decide where that story is going, and we create our stories in the here and now. I strive to meet clients as they are and where they are when they come to therapy. I aim to create a welcoming, authentic, and safe space to explore feelings, develop stronger coping skills, and gain insight. By taking an active role in the therapeutic process, I am confident in the client’s ability to self-actualize, create the changes they wish to see, and meet their goals. Life can be challenging, but with the right guidance those challenges can become your strongest tools in navigating and transforming your life.

It is so easy to neglect our own emotional health and healing. We take care of everything and everyone else before we think to care for ourselves. If, like so many of us, you are forgetting to care for yourself or you are struggling to sustain your resilience, it is time to turn your attention to your own well-being. These past few years have added to life's difficulties and have increased feelings of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and uncertainty. I am here to help and I do so much more than the traditional talk therapy.

How can I find a therapist in Farmington Hills?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
