Reaching out for counseling takes courage, humility, and strength. Whether you are seeking support for a life stressor, recent loss, family disconnection, mental health challenges, or to address and navigate relationship difficulties, my goal is to collaborate with you to achieve lasting change and growth. Together, we will develop treatment goals, clarify personal values, strengthen coping strategies, and give you a safe and non-judgmental space to feel heard and validated. I specialize in Eating Disorders, Couples' Counseling, Family Therapy, ADHD, Anxiety, and those with chronic medical conditions.

These typically include CBT, solution-focused therapy and motivational interviewing.
Life is difficult. With the right tools and some effort, it does not have to be. My hope is to help you with your goals. Whether that is to feel better (less depressed, anxious or angry), improve your relationships (with a spouse, parent, child, etc.), change your behaviors (substance use, self harm, avoidance), or anything else that is important to you, I'd love the opportunity to help. I enjoy working with a number of different presenting problems. My passions are working with teens/adults, men's issues (especially navigating work and/or family life), post-partum Dad's, athletes and substance use/co-occurring disorders.

I utilize CBT, emotion-focused, solution-focused, interpersonal, and psychodynamic approaches in order to address the different difficulties that may arise during the therapeutic session.
Being in our own thoughts can be both a positive and negative space. I believe that psychotherapy, matched with a warm, welcoming, and beneficial therapeutic relationship, can be a transitional process in which we are able to navigate our thoughts in different ways. Through my own lived experience with therapy, I found that I was able to allow my positive thoughts/experiences the space to shine, while also freeing space therefore allowing a more beneficial perspective, in which to view my maladaptive thoughts. This is an experience that I hope to be able to replicate with each and every one of my clients.

I am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
As a therapist, it is my goal to provide a safe and welcoming space where you will feel heard, respected and supported. I am sensitive to the fact that many people are not too eager or comfortable with opening up to a stranger about their personal history. My therapy style is warm, relaxed and caring and I practice from an integrated treatment approach, paced and tailored to fit the goals and readiness of each individual.

I utilize a blend of traditional talk therapy, art and play therapy techniques, CBT and other active and creative interventions.
I believe that relationships are at the core of any effective therapy. It is important to me that the children and families I work with feel heard and respected. I am flexible in my approaches and how I deliver therapy. This allows me to be able to focus on the strengths of the child and family. I utilize interests, abilities, and passions to provide services that are engaging, comfortable, and impactful. I believe that children, adolescents and young adults thrive best in therapy when they are allowed to express themselves in the way that is most natural for them.

As we venture into your past and set goals for your future, I will employ holistic techniques primarily from EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Sorting through the things in your mind is difficult; but with therapy, it doesn’t have to be. I will never claim that therapy is easy, but I will always believe it’s worthwhile.

She uses a dynamic clinical approach including IFS, CBT, mindfulness, CPT, intuitive eating, as well as emotion-focused therapy to help her clients.
Life is often stressful and living with chronic illness only makes life more challenging. Having a therapist who also understands the mental and emotional side of chronic illness/diabetes can be really helpful. In my practice, I work with clients by compassionately building from their strengths, increasing their coping strategies for more insight and self-understanding, increased emotional regulation and stress management, and improving depression, anxiety, trauma, and diabetes-related distress.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
