I am a skill focused therapist. It's important to me that while you are exploring and gaining a deeper understanding of what you are struggling with, that you are also learning tangible skills and tools to help you know what to do to help yourself outside of therapy to effectively resolve issues. Areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, life changes/crisis, grief, mild to medium disordered eating, and addiction. Issues I'm currently not addressing are psychosis, self harm, and suicidal/homicidal urges.

If you told me 5 years ago I would be a mental health therapist, I would not have believed you. I had a plan to be a teacher since I can remember, and I was sticking to that plan. Yet when I started working with my students and families as well as with families around the world, I realized there was more I wanted to do. I wanted to help those who felt like there was no hope. I wanted to help provide a safe space for them to explore the darkest parts of their worlds and learn how to continuously come back for air and light, and eventually, learn how to see the darkness but not have the darkness control their life.

As Christian counselors, we believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He came to reveal the Father’s heart & through His life, death & resurrection He decisively accomplished Gods saving work. He engages us in the Divine Relationship that we were created by, for, through and in. We seek, along with you, the client, loving purpose, healing, & direction of the Trinity in the counseling sessions. As licensed therapist, we consider our efforts inadequate apart from the grace & presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are blessed & humbled to go to work each day & see Christ working in people's lives in an intimate way.

Life is hard. We do the best we can to solve our problems with the knowledge we have. But sometimes we find ourselves in a difficult spot where we need fresh perspectives and new thinking tools to help us deal with our problems in a healthier way. That is the benefit of counseling. In a safe and affirming environment, I help my clients find solutions to problems that are solvable, learn to better cope with those that are unsolvable, and discover deeper joy and meaning in life.

New Hope Counseling, PLLC is owned and operated by me, Dennis Tucker, LCSW. I provide traditional office visits or phone counseling for individuals, couples, and families. My approach can be described as 'Person-centered', meaning I believe the answers to your dilemmas are found inside you. My job is to help you unlock those answers by connecting with the intuition you originally had when you first experienced life. Often to do this, we must confront and overcome our personal fears and anxieties, including the anger we sometimes hide behind.

I work with children, teens, and adults. Much of my clinical works focuses more on helping the person, not on giving a label. Hope and trust are crucial in working with a therapist. Finding the right fit, the right type of experience, and the right connection is what builds this hope.

As humans, we learn to cope with unpleasant feelings and situations using our innate strengths. Despite doing our best those strategies are sometimes ineffective or unhelpful. The way we try to avoid pain may cause us distress and create problems that become hard-wired into our identity and reduce our ability to function and connect fully with others. In a warm, supportive environment we can experience change as we embrace what we feel, become aware of our emotional patterns, and choose helpful thoughts. My mission as a therapist is to help you cope, think, and feel better using a wide range of empirically-based interventions.

My passion to help others was the driving force in pursuing an in-depth education in mental health. It is my greatest wish for all to experience their highest level of personal success. I strongly believe the quality of a person's life is heavily impacted by the relationships they engage in. There is nothing more rewarding than assisting an individual toward obtaining harmony in their relationships, strengthening their concept of self compassion and acceptance, and empowering their abilities to create their own happiness.

My clinical experience has included working with individuals that have experienced trauma as well as anxiety and depression. I currently practice individual therapy with adult individuals (18 y/o and up) experiencing anxiety, depression, and PTSD (including dissociation, and complex PTSD) in both English and Spanish. We may utilize various modalities including mindfulness techniques, trauma specific treatment modalities (including EMDR and IFS), attachment work, and mind-soul-body integration. My passion lies in helping clients connect with their voice, strength, and sense of self.

My style is to use direct and useful feedback whenever appropriate to make treatment both comfortable and effective. I have been told my genuine and transparent style is the reason I am effective. I view all behaviors as being a reaction to situations and originally adaptive and I view all clients as doing the best they can. I will take the time to understand what you are going through, and refrain from making assumptions or judgments. I believe successful therapy includes finding a therapist you feel comfortable with. I offer free 30 minute sessions.

We know that it takes great courage to seek help for your problems. Medication may seem to be the easiest solution, however, research continually indicates that the best treatment outcomes result from a combination of psychotherapy and medication. We seek to provide quality psychotherapy in a safe, warm, and comfortable setting. Our trained therapists will also work with your physician to help provide optimal medications to assist in your healing/recovery process.

I have worked with many different diagnoses throughout my career and training. Most of the client's I have worked with have come in with issues compounded by different traumas. Usually what a person walks in the door with is a symptom of deeper difficulties. I like to help my clients not only resolve their presenting problem, but also more deeply rooted patterns and behaviors. Lasting change is difficult and it is always possible. I wouldn't do this if I didn't think so. The self-understanding one gains in therapy can be quite fraught. But it can also create a happier, more meaningful, and more purposeful life.

You are welcome here. Please come as you are. So many people walk through life believing that no one would love them if they really knew them. This is shame. Shame can keep us isolated, afraid, and closed off from our true potential. In therapy, I offer an opportunity to be truly seen and accepted for who you are. To encounter one another in this way can be deeply healing.

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “How did I get here?” Sometimes life feels hard, overwhelming, and chaotic. Maybe you just don’t where to start or you feel lost. Maybe you’re embarrassed that you can’t handle things on your own or like you don’t know who to ask for help. Perhaps you're going through a rough patch or you're looking to improve your relationships with friends, family, or partner. Or, maybe your child is struggling with anger, sadness, or anxiety.

Relationships are often difficult to navigate. EFT is a model of therapy that can facilitate a healthier and stronger connection in relationships. My goal is to offer a safe environment for clients to address challenges in life, such as problems in relationships, grief and loss, behavioral problems and child behavioral problems, and overcoming low self-esteem. I love helping people find what works for them. My approach is warm and genuine. I believe that people can overcome anything if they have the right tools. My aim is to help you find those tools and use them.
