My approach to therapy is warm, inviting, and challenging. I value compassion and "realness" and approach my work with clients from a place of curiosity and respect. I believe the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful work to occur and work with my clients to identify what feels most important to explore and address in therapy. Our work together may involve processing and organizing difficult life experiences or memories, preparing for major life transitions, or navigating challenges relating to depression/anxiety.

I am a psychotherapist specializing in growth-oriented counseling with adults & couples. My clients typically work to increase emotional awareness of their present choices or patterns which lead to various forms of distress. This pain often causes significant disruption in their social, work, physical lives or intimate relationships. Early childhood experiences influence how we all experience our lives today. Insights and associations during talk therapy often bring previously unseen options to light that lead to healthier choices and decreased stress and pain. These sessions take place weekly over the course of many months or more to provide the foundation of lasting growth.

My goal is to help you find your best fit and support you in your personal growth, healing, and self-empowering journey. My approach is often described as supportive, warm, empowering, challenging (when you need it), and humorous.

A happy and secure marriage is wonderful, and can be tough to maintain. Keeping your relationship solid during a really difficult season in life is even harder. So many couples struggle to stay connected when they're going through something difficult: trying to have a baby, adjusting to parenthood, job changes, financial stressors, grief, or health issues. Other couples find themselves simply drifting apart: they're not sure when things changed, but one day they looked up and realized their communication sucks and they barely spend time together. And when this happens, so many couples don't know what to do or how to reconnect.

My approach is gentle and direct. I know if you are coming to me, it’s possible you have been struggling with the same patterns and emotional pain for a long while and coping the best that you can. Together we can sort through what’s happening with your inner experiences, your relationships, and a world that can often feel anxiety-provoking. If you are holding painful memories or having traumatic symptoms, together we can ease your system into a more relaxed state so that you can experience life more fully present. From here, you can start down a path toward a more grounded sense of peace, joy, connection, and creativity.

I would like to first start with saying Congratulations to making the first step in prioritizing your mental health! It is a courageous decision to work on ourselves! Therapy can be the beginning of a life changing endeavor for many and it all begins with you. HI! My name is Erin and I, too, have made that same decision in my life to seek better understanding of myself as well as working through challenges that have gotten me “stuck” at times in my life. I share this because I feel it important for my patients to know that my own personal journey allows me to be empathetic and compassionate to patient’s needs and struggles.

Over thirty years of experience partnering with clients of all ages, from a wide variety of backgrounds, has confirmed for me each person has within themselves the resources and ability to become the person they wish to be and to improve their satisfaction in life. As a therapist I partner with each client helping them to identify patterns of thought and behavior that are no longer effective and guide them in discovering new, more rewarding ways of relating and connecting with others. I work collaboratively with clients to solve problems, connect with strengths, and reach their personal and professional goals.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
