I specialize in LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy, EMDR trauma treatment, Codependency, Attachment styles, and ERP treatment for OCD.
Congratulations on taking the first steps toward a more manageable life! It is not easy to sift through the list of many fantastic and capable clinicians to find the one that feels right for you. My current and past clients shared that they reached out to me because they resonated with my specializations and personable website. I am an empathic active listener who will assist you in discovering and recovering parts of yourself, will challenge your misguided beliefs and dominant discourses, and support you as you process the myriad of emotions that you are carrying. Therapy is guided self-exploration. Often, we repeat patterns because the emotional wounds suffered as children are being replayed in our adult life. We have a subconscious fear of experiencing feelings of abandonment and this drives codependent patterns of relating. Repeated neglect of yourself to get validation from an external being is the definition of codependency. You can break this cycle of trauma bonding and devote yourself to YOU.

I treat codependency...a fancy word for over-focusing on others and under-focusing on you. Letting others determine your self-esteem is a dangerous thing to do. But when you're harmed as a kid, you learn that you don't matter. You come away from childhood with broken "antennae". You don't see unhealthy traits in others. Too much pain teaches you to ignore your feelings and live in your head. It's a trick that gets you through childhood, but it sabotages adult relationships. My passion is helping you use your voice to get what you want.

For those struggling with intimacy, shame, depression, trauma, or just feeling alone, there's nothing more therapeutic than a good relationship. What most people yearn for is to feel heard, accepted and understood. My approach is to provide an understanding, empathic, non-judgmental relationship in which we can explore your feelings and experiences with the goal of improving your quality of life. Every person has their own style of relating to themselves and others, born out of their history. My training gives me the tools to help you understand your inner life, and forge new patterns of relating.

I work with clients on issues ranging from depression, anxiety, OCD, addiction to relationship, career and identity issues and I work with couples. I’ve had a specialty in hair pulling and skin picking since 2001: See my website.  I use many theories in my work—psychodynamic, Jungian dreamwork and mindfulness practice to name a few—but my style is existential humanistic, working in the present. I see the ultimate goal as supporting you in living from an authentic, empowered place, feeling a sense of inner security, hearing and trusting your true inner voice—not the inner critic—and having a strong sense of self to guide you in life.

I'm a Licensed Certified Social Worker with many years of clinical experience, currently licensed in CA, FL, NJ and NY. The focus of my work is with betrayed partners (of sex addicts). Most of my clients approach me trying to understand and process the trauma that they have suffered. For many patients, their recent trauma, is not their first. Patients often tell me that I’m so easy to talk to and that they feel comfortable and validated when working with me. In helping my clients understand their trauma, and the dynamics around it, I work gently and carefully, while ensuring comfort and safety as we talk about these difficult topics

I offer a warm, honest partnership for anyone who is struggling emotionally. People come in feeling alone in some way: overwhelmed, unfulfilled, blocked creatively or convinced that everyone else in the world is different from them. Or, maybe you are grieving the break-up of a relationship, marriage, or the death of someone close. Feeling alone in your pain is often the worst part.

Therapy is an intimate collaboration in self-discovery, problem solving, and empowerment. By creating a consistent safe space, I aim to cultivate a meaningful therapeutic relationship with my clients where they feel comfortable and supported. This allows us to collaboratively create tailored solutions for symptom relief & personal growth. I appreciate serving folks who deal with anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and intergenerational trauma. I work with my clients to uncover how patterns of past unresolved conflict may be unconsciously repeated and disruptive to their current well-being and interpersonal relationships.

I have experience working with clients from many diverse backgrounds. I spent a few years working in addiction treatment and have worked in residential treatment centers helping clients struggling with drug, alcohol, and gambling addictions through a 12 step lens. During the pandemic, I pivoted my career path and began focusing on clients struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, major life transitions, and parenthood struggles. I have also worked with clients struggling with ADHD to both process the diagnosis and work on behavioral changes. I have experience with individuals and couples!

I have a deep passion for helping people find liberation from concerns that bring them to therapy. Understanding why we do things the way we do them is critical to growth, change and healing. I ground my work in warmth, compassion, authenticity and an understanding of how thoughts and emotions relate to neuro/physiological processes, as well as how past experiences inform current beliefs, thoughts, feelings and behaviors. My aim is to help you gain clarity into underlying causes of problems, provide strategies for coping and support you in taking risks and trying new ways of being, to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
