Having worked with individuals, families, and groups, I have assisted clients in addressing such issues as substance use, addiction, life transitions, codependency, depression, anxiety, coping skills, relationships, failure to launch, and adjustment disorders.
I am a Licensed Master of Social Work specializing in individual and family therapy in the East Cobb area - specifically adolescents, young adults, and their families. My main focus and specialty is helping those suffering with substance use and addiction. Having been down my own path of addiction and now recovery, I am able to truly know where you have been and have sat in your same seat. Along with substance use, I work with individuals having difficulty with their depression, anxiety, and learning to launch into their next stage of life.

Now offering EMDR intensives! Maybe you don't have the time to meet regularly week to week but really have been wanting to do EMDR. Intensives are a great way to process trauma or attachment wounds at one time. Those triggers are becoming more and more overwhelming but so does trying to make it for therapy every week. You have tried traditional therapy and even talking with friends but nothing has worked. Your triggers just keep getting bigger no matter how much you try to “think positive”. It’s just not enough. Everything you try and your past still haunts you. The pressure

You feel disconnected and alone. Even in your most trusted relationship with your partner or spouse, you feel like there’s a separation between the two of you. You keep having the same fights or discussions over and over again, repeating the same pattern. Communicating with your partner doesn’t seem to be working. Everything you say seems to be the wrong thing. You feel hurt, angry, and scared that the pain and loneliness that you’re going through will never get better. You want to feel trust and security in your relationship. You want more than anything to feel connected again.

Supporting your child just doesn't seem to work anymore. Being a teenager, they feel out of reach. They have been struggling for so long and you have exhausted all resources. At the end of your rope, you don't know where else to go. The anxiety has set in for you AND your teen. School work is filled with arguments and trying to fight to get them to care. Losing connection with them more and more, fear has set in. How can you help them, when you have exhausted all other resources. You care so deeply, and need someone to come alongside.

So much of how we see ourselves and the world is based on the beliefs we hold closely, sometimes unknowingly. These beliefs are developed and emphasized over time, feeling more and more like solid truth. All too often, these beliefs are not only untrue, they are harmful to our mental health and perception of who we are and what we're worth. I am dedicated to walking with you as you come to identify, understand and work through those beliefs to move toward self-compassion and growth. I am passionate about helping you to grow in self-awareness surrounding your emotions, relationships and ability to make changes within yourself.

I AM accepting new clients! Let’s face it, asking for help can be one of the most difficult things to do. It might seem easier to search online and try to figure things out by yourself. Looking things up online is convenient, but the value of person-to-person communication with a professional who applies evidenced-based care in a safe and supportive setting is irreplaceable. I assist with life challenges such as anxiety/stress, trauma recovery/PTSD, relationship issues, communication issues, conflict management, adjustment issues, spirituality, transitions into new phases of life, and managing mental health symptoms in general.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
