Initially perhaps you thought your child would grow out of some of these things or maybe even "forget" something bad that happened but now you are starting to second guess yourself. Something just doesn't seem right with your child and your gut is telling you that professional help is the way to go. And you are right, research shows that early intervention is far more effective than waiting until later in childhood to deal with problems.

What? Me . . . traumatized? Surely it's not as bad as . .someone else and their experience. Trauma comes in many forms and disguises. The back part of the brain subconsciously feels we are in a battle or there's a bear in the cave. Our defenses/ways of coping and triggers arise in ways that aren't helpful or productive/controllable. Reactions/responses seem to come from out of nowhere. These can be signs/symptoms of depression, anxiety,and overwhelm. All can be addressed and shifted in counseling, particularly through EMDR. I am certified in that field and have found it to be life-changing for many.

I am a trained EMDR therapist focusing on the treatment of trauma and its common co-occurring disorders such as substance abuse and personality disorders. While Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing was initially developed for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), it is still widely used to treat other common mental health issues such as: anxiety disorders, mood disorders, childhood abuse or neglect, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, panic disorders, substance abuse disorders.
