Seeking therapy is often a difficult process for many individuals of diverse backgrounds due to cultural stigmas and stereotypes around mental health. Trying to then find the "right" therapist can feel impossible whether it's your first time exploring or the umpteenth attempt following another not-so-great experience. I believe a safe therapeutic relationship can create unique opportunities for minority populations who are seeking to better understand and cope with their mental health, especially when approached with multicultural and feminist perspectives that allow for a level of empathy that is often unavailable in other spaces.
I strive to decolonize therapy by incorporating multiculturalism and feminism into my work and demystifying stigmas present in many minority communities around counseling and mental health. My goal is to offer a safe space for diverse populations struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, grief/loss, racial/ethnic identity, and/or relationships.
As a Korean American, I recognize the importance in creating a space for minority communities to learn about, explore, and safely engage in therapy to unpack intergenerational traumas, conflicting cultural beliefs, and expectations. Knowing this is often unavailable in many oppressed communities, I hope to provide a safe space to those in need.
