There is nothing wrong with asking for help and it’s important to remember that. “Asking for help when you need it doesn’t show weakness, it shows tremendous strength”— it takes self-awareness; it takes courage and the willingness to be vulnerable. A great quote by Fred Rogers says, “When we talk about our feelings they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.” The therapeutic relationship I have with clients is something that I cherish and do not take for granted. It is a true privilege to be able to accompany clients on their journeys of self-discovery and self-understanding.

Often, people seek therapy because they are struggling with difficult and painful feelings. Others may have trouble getting in touch with their feelings at all but know something is not quite right in their lives. To me, the goal of therapy is finding balance- getting in touch with our feelings without allowing them to overwhelm us, being vulnerable and asking for support when we need it while trusting our own inner strength and abilities.

I am a person-centered therapist. My aim in session is to support my clients' natural ability to make change in their life. I specialize in life transition issues. My typical client is facing a challenge that is pressing them toward change in a major life area (work, relationships, finances, etc.). I help them uncover feelings and beliefs that secretly sabotage their decision-making process and replace them with more effective ones. The struggle is real! Life can be challenging, overwhelming, and at times, just plain difficult. The good news is, it does not have to be and you don't have to go it alone. My approach is to offer compassionate support in a nonjudgmental and empowering environment in which you are the expert on your experiences. The goal of therapy, I hope, is to empower you to appropriately deal with life events, reduce stress, and experience personal growth. I also hope therapy will allow for increased feelings of self worth, satisfaction in relationships and will lead to a more fulfilling life.

I have a deep desire to help others find happiness and fulfillment in their lives and to overcome personal obstacles. My passion is to walk alongside those who entrust me with their healing journey. The guidance one receives through counseling is about becoming able to heal one’s self. This journey is often difficult and sometimes even painful, but the results are life changing. It is important to me to collaborate with my clients to create an open and safe environment in which to explore and communicate.

Do you feel you have a lot weighing on your mind but don’t know where to let it out? Do you often find yourself hesitant to talk through how you’re feeling? It takes courage to recognize the need to reach out to someone and even more so to act on it. I can provide a safe and non-judgmental space you need to be heard and allow you to put those thoughts into your own words.

I provide a safe, trusting environment for my clients to open up and share their experiences without feeling judged or shamed. I take a warm, client-centered approach to psychotherapy, based on the work of Carl Rogers. I believe that one of the most valuable aspect of therapy is for the therapist to have unconditional positive regard toward the client. As my client, I will think the best of you, and truly believe that you are capable of great things. I am positive, non-judgmental and compassionate, and when you enter my office it will be a safe environment for you to be vulnerable and be yourself.

I work with a wide range of clients, ranging from couples who need to reconnect to children and families grieving a loss. I work from a strengths based approach and believe that we have the answers and sometimes get stuck. We are resilient beings and sometimes get distracted looking at our deficits and not often enough our strengths. My ideal client is willing to have the difficult conversations that will lead to change.

I work with children (10+) and adults who are struggling to regulate their emotions and feel out of control. When working with a child, I help kids and their parents hear each other by cutting out the frustration of making assumptions instead of asking questions from a place of curiosity. With adult clients, we work together to prioritize what is important in your life, strengthen your decision making, and redefine taking care of yourself.

Life often presents us with challenges that impact our emotional well-being. Sometimes, these challenges arise from our early experiences, shaping how we interact with ourselves and others. We may have learned to disconnect from our needs, emotions, or even from those around us. While these coping mechanisms may have helped us in the past, they can become limiting patterns that no longer align with our present desires and goals. Through therapy, we have the opportunity to update our inner templates and work through struggles, freeing us up to connect with our lives in the ways we want to.

I believe life can be challenging enough as is, without having to navigate it with anxiety, depression and racing thoughts. I believe reaching out for help, or just someone to talk to, is the most important thing you can do. Life is stressful, life is messy and sometimes having someone to talk to can help clear your head. Please don’t overthink things, don’t spend hours looking for the “perfect therapist, and over analyze the therapy process. I’m here to help, just reach out that’s the first step!

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
