Maria A. Williams, Licensed Social Worker (LMSW), holds a Master's degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University, with an Interpersonal Practice scope. Maria has experience working with children of all ages, teens, young adults and families. Maria has shown to be effective in developing healthy long-lasting therapeutic relationships. She has experience working with many life themes; grief, depression, anxiety, relationships, self-esteem, academics, teen pregnancy, foster care, substance use, social media, and other difficult issues that adolescents, teens, and adults face.

As a daughter of immigrants, I am familiar with the struggles of feeling like an outsider, facing ongoing acculturation, as well as the stress and anxiety that comes with resettlement and starting over. I strive to normalize therapy and make it accessible to anyone struggling with their cultural or personal identity, including the immigrant community and anyone seeking therapy for the first time. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable with someone new is often one of the most challenging aspects of starting therapy. There is a stigma associated with seeking professional help for mental health in many communities.

I believe that although many clients have similarities, each client is different and deserves individualized intervention strategies. I can assist each client in developing their specific box of tools to address their personal issues and to meet their counseling goals. I believe that the best view of therapy is a holistic view. A hammer is an effective tool until a wrench is needed. A toolbox with many diverse tools has the best chance at repairing a multitude of concerns. I will offer evidenced based strategies as well as experimental strategies that are tied to Art & Science.

I enjoy working with clients with many different issues and backgrounds. I have many years of experience working with adolescents, the elderly, and everyone in-between. I have experience helping clients with behavior problems, assisting parents with managing behaviors of their children, helping couples work-out their issues, and assisting individuals with depression, anxiety, and OCD. I seek to understand my clients' challenges, and help them develop skills and strategies to overcome them.
