Drama Therapy for Kids: Act Your Way out of Anxiety. Is your child suffering from anxiety about school, friendships, or new situations such as divorce? Are your child's issues lowering their self-esteem? Why send your child to just talk therapy when they can heal through stories? Through drama and arts therapy kids communicate how they were meant to communicate - through storytelling and imaginary play. They act out characters, make up stories, share favorite films or t.v. shows while healing from anxiety or depression. A drama therapist speaks the child's language and quickly gets to the core of the problems.
Kids want to tell about the hurt or nervousness they're feeling, but often don't know how to express it. Through drama and creative arts therapy exercises I sense how the child views life and which roles the child needs to rehearse. Kids find resiliency inside to play happier, more confident roles.
I've worked in theater and psychology for 20 years, using drama therapy techniques for the last four years. I have led workshops at the Montclair Cooperative School, Cornerstone Montclair, Montclair Baby, and Common Ground Family Camp. I'm partnering with Luna Stage to offer the Luna Fantasy Factory Camp.
