I have 23 years of experience helping my clients change their relationship with their thoughts and feelings as they close the gap between how their lives are and how they want them to be. I draw from different approaches, which allows me to meet my clients where they are, creating a personalized approach unique to the needs of each person. While I specialize in substance abuse, women's issues , and depression, I also help clients develop skills to manage stress, improve their relationship with themselves and others, and adjust to life transitions such as divorce, starting a new relationship, or having a baby.

Specialty areas I include in my practice are adolescents (such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, school and family issues), grief/loss/transitions (death of a loved one, chronic or life threatening illness, pet loss, separation or divorce, job change/loss), women's issues (pregnancy, hormones), as well as working on relationships with couples and families.
Life is full of challenges. I believe these challenges can also be stepping stones to our own personal growth. Whether stress from a job, a relationship issue or perhaps experiencing depression or anxiety, everyone deserves to have a non-judgmental, safe place to be able to talk. As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I strive to make my office a comfortable environment where those "hard conversations" can happen, resulting in a deeper understanding of what roles we play in relationships as well as how our thoughts impact how we feel and act.

My specialties include, but are not limited to: adolescent/young adult counseling and coaching, depression, anxiety, grief & loss, trauma, and women's issues .
I am passionate about working with adolescents, young adults, and people who are looking for a different approach than traditional talk therapy. I particularly enjoy working with people who are interested in a quick painless way to resolve trauma and who are open to a new way of thinking about how the mind works. In order to facilitate change I use a variety of experiential modalities such as Rapid Resolution Therapy, emotional freedom techniques (EFT), matrix reimprinting, expressive arts, energy psychology, mindfulness/meditation, and other holistic methods.

I also work with Empaths and Highly Sensitive Persons, those recovering from narcissistic abuse relationship experiences, people facing stress, work related concerns as well as spirituality and women's issues .
Using a warm and present style, I trust the inner knowing of those I work with in the process of unfolding and moving through life. I use my gifts of intuition in our work together and am a reflective witness and facilitator to your process. My approach is integrative, utilizing various methods to support your growth and healing process. I am trained in Brainspotting and EMDR, and use these methods often in helping individuals experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, grief, and overwhelming experiences, to name a few. I value working with those who are motivated to explore their own growth and inner healing process.

I work with humans across age groups, and while the life stage changes, many struggles connect all of us. (Currently, not accepting new teen clients). I enjoy working with clients struggling with perinatal mental health concerns, young adults trying to prioritize their mental health, and children/teens whose parents want them to have a supportive place to process life. I'm a Bilingual and Bicultural therapist (Mexican-American) who brings my human self to my job as a therapist. My passion is in supporting BIPOC individuals to receive accessible and culturally informed therapy.

Do you feel like you've hit a wall? You're spinning in circles? You keep reliving past experiences? Or perhaps you and your partner are having the same fights repeatedly with no resolution. Maybe you're a parent floating along in a sea of chaos that you can't ever seem to bring order to. Feeling alone, lost, or ashamed that you 'can't handle this' or you 'should know what to do' - everyone else seems to be doing just fine. There is no Life Manual, no Relationship Guide, no Parenting Handbook given at birth to navigate your life.

Hi. My name is Kate Pauley and I work with individuals, couples, and families. It is my greatest joy to see clients experiencing warmth, love, and bliss in their relationships. This may sound unattainable right now, and that is okay. I will work together with you from exactly where you are right now to get you to where you want to be. Did you know that the average couple waits 6 years after first thinking about therapy before actually coming to therapy? Because I offer affordable counseling, you do not need to wait until things are unbearable before starting. No matter where you are right now, I am here.

There must be a better way! You’re feeling so overwhelmed that you’re wondering if you can keep doing this day after day. At this point, the feelings of anxiety from handling stress, finding balance, recognizing a sense of self, and setting boundaries are no longer common. The culmination of your feelings begins to lead you to question your abilities and stir up the belief that something has to change because there must be a better way!

When you meet me for the first time you will see my authentic self. I show up in session as I do in my life. What you see is what you get. I do this work, because I genuinely love people. My style is conversational and we will hopefully laugh at least once in session. Through my experience, I have learned that “normal” is a wide spectrum. What’s “normal” for one person doesn't make sense to another. I believe throughout our lives, we develop skills/thoughts/behaviors to manage our experiences: negative thinking patterns, anxiety, self-doubt, substance use and difficulty in relationships.

My goal is to create a compassionate working relationship where my clients feel seen and heard, in all of their identities. I believe that you are the expert on yourself, and together we can collaboratively identify and begin making progress on your goals. For some, that could mean brief therapy, while others might be better suited for longer term depth work. I’m a feminist therapist, who uses relational, social justice, and interpersonal process approaches to counseling. I strive to create a non-judgmental space where you can feel free to be yourself. I work well with adults who are interested in better understanding themselves.

You’re a 20s-30s-something and you're realizing that the coping strategies you once relied on are no longer serving you. Maybe you’ve found success in your work, but desire your interpersonal relationships to be stronger. Perhaps you’re searching for clarity, or a sense of stability after going through a break up, a move, a career switch, or a life transition. You may be a couple desiring stronger connection, better communication, and more depth in your relationship. Whether an individual or a couple, you're noticing that past experiences and old patterns are interrupting the life and relationships you're trying to build.

I enjoy working with all people from all walks of life. As a systemic therapist, a focus of mine will be on your family of origin and the events in your life that make you, you. Exploring our past aids in expanding our perspectives and provides new awareness which also helps in building greater connections to ourselves and to our loved ones. From a Humanistic point of view, I also believe that all people hold the key to their own healing. I look forward to working collaboratively together to find your unique path to healing.

Do you struggle feeling connected and close to others? Do you struggle with worry or stress? Do you sometimes lose sleep, become unfocused or distracted, or is being present and calm around other people challenging? The work I do with clients centers around learning how to feel calm and connected again. Sometimes, after a period of struggle (like a loss, divorce, or extended work stress), we can forget what it was like to not struggle. To find that calm again, to reclaim who we used to be, can help us move forward.

I believe challenges (internally and externally) are ripe times for self-inquiry. I utilize a fusion of modalities including somatic practices, trauma-informed care, psycho-education, and neuroscience. I work with clients to fully understand their mind, heart, instinctual & physical selves. I offer somatic counseling, a holistic approach to women's Holistic Pelvic Care, and work virtually as well as in the office. I am experienced working with altered states and offer psychedelic integration support. I am trained in and offer EMDR. I also provide Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) through a service called Journey Clinical.

You feel like you are in an ocean, barely keeping your head above the waves. People in your life look to you to handle problems, because you always do, and you do it thoroughly excellently. But you're exhausted. You want to be free of the responsibility you have seemingly always held. Your exhaustion causes you irritation and anxiety that invariably affect your relationships. You may even fantasize about leaving it all behind and letting someone else pick up the pieces. I want you to know that there is freedom in this life for you if you are willing to take it, and I can help you do that.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
