Summer Sale for Helping Professionals! $40 Virtual and In-Person. Before pursuing a Master's Degree in Marriage and
Family Therapy
, I worked at a non-profit for three years as a personal care aide and in the case management of individuals with developmental disabilities. The populations I served ranged from 12 to 76-year-olds diagnosed with various developmental disabilities and psychiatric disorders. This experience changed my life and perspective. I left this with the understanding that no behavior or reaction occurs within a vacuum. Strong social support networks, personal agency, and resources are critical to personal growth.

I am a pre-licensed Marriage and

Candidate.
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help others. Active listening, being empathetic, and showing compassion for others during tough times has always come naturally to me. I strive to bring these natural strengths, as well as the tools I have learned throughout my time as a student, to give the best possible care to each of my clients/families/couples. I believe that a client should be able to leave each therapy session with a greater understanding and self-awareness of how they can navigate through their lives.

The moment I realized I wanted to pursue a career as a Marriage and
Family Therapist
was during my first psychology course in high school. This course sparked my interest in counseling, specifically with couples and families. A core value of mine is how important relationships are with the world, our families, and ourselves. Learning about the developmental stages inspired me to focus on the importance of relationships. Relationships are fundamental to a child's upbringing, not just to children but at all stages of life, starting with childhood, leading to adolescence, and though adulthood.

, Pllc. I would like to acknowledge what a big step it is to be seeking a therapist, and say I have been there! Our parents, families and culture provide such insight into how we behave and react in relationships including partnerships, parenting, friendships and familial relationships. The curiosity of wanting to understand why people are the way that they are started me on the journey to become a therapist.

Do you sometimes feel alone in the world? Do you sometimes wonder "is this all there is?" Do you often wonder if everyone else has some sort of secret knowledge, that if only you had, would make your life better? Many of us feel these things at one time or another in our lives and sometimes we get "stuck" and feel unable to move forward. I will walk with you and help you understand where these issues come from and what you can do to feel better.

Finding a therapist can feel daunting and overwhelming—it's such an important choice! That's why I do my best to create an experience for my clients that is warm, welcoming, authentic, and trusting. Part of why I decided to become a therapist is because of how important I believe our relationships are to our well-being. While relationships can sometimes be sources of immense distress, pain, confusion, and loneliness, I also believe that when they are healthy and safe, they have the ability to soothe, comfort, and generate powerful change.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
