Are you feeling disconnected from yourself or your
relationship
? I can help! I enjoy working with and empowering adolescents,
couples
, and the elderly to overcome obstacles and process through trauma that impacts growth. I also use qEEG Neurofeedback to address the struggles associated with ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, depression, autism, and behavioral issues in children and adults. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help others. Active listening, being empathetic, and showing compassion for others during tough times has always come naturally to me. I strive to bring these natural strengths, as well as the tools I have learned throughout my time as a student, to give the best possible care to each of my clients/families/
couples
. I believe that a client should be able to leave each therapy session with a greater understanding and self-awareness of how they can navigate through their lives.

Do you feel like you've hit a wall? You're spinning in circles? You keep reliving past experiences? Or perhaps you and your
partner
are having the same fights repeatedly with no resolution. Maybe you're a parent floating along in a sea of chaos that you can't ever seem to bring order to. Feeling alone, lost, or ashamed that you 'can't handle this' or you 'should know what to do' - everyone else seems to be doing just fine.
There is no Life Manual, no

I love working with families,
couples
, parent/child, and individuals, including teens and preadolescents.
I enjoy working with all people from all walks of life. As a systemic therapist, a focus of mine will be on your family of origin and the events in your life that make you, you. Exploring our past aids in expanding our perspectives and provides new awareness which also helps in building greater connections to ourselves and to our loved ones. From a Humanistic point of view, I also believe that all people hold the key to their own healing. I look forward to working collaboratively together to find your unique path to healing.

Having memories shown in symbolic form can help you create a
relationship
with your own nervous system.
Do you feel like you don’t want to talk about your emotions? You’re not alone. Talk therapy can be anxiety provoking for some clients, regardless of age, so I offer them the opportunity to process and integrate the left and right hemispheres of the brain in a safe way. I enjoy working with clients who feel devalued, dismissed, or oppressed, misunderstood, experiencing grief, acculturation stress, navigating multiple minoritized identities, and empowering clients experiencing identity-based trauma.

I see the therapy
relationship
as a place to learn new ways of being/seeing ourselves.
Finding a therapist can feel daunting and overwhelming—it's such an important choice! That's why I do my best to create an experience for my clients that is warm, welcoming, authentic, and trusting. Part of why I decided to become a therapist is because of how important I believe our relationships are to our well-being. While relationships can sometimes be sources of immense distress, pain, confusion, and loneliness, I also believe that when they are healthy and safe, they have the ability to soothe, comfort, and generate powerful change.

I use emotionally-focused therapy as a way to deepen
couples
’ understanding of each other and what is preventing connection in order to create the
relationship
they want.
My name is Darcy and I work with
couples
, individuals and families to build deep and loving connections with one another. If you feel frustrated, confused or alone in your
relationship
and you’re not sure how to find your way back to your
partner
, I can help. Together we will examine the painful aspects of your
relationship
and then work to help you communicate and process emotions more effectively with one another. I entered this field because I am passionate about the transformative power of relationships and, in my work, I have seen people move from a pattern of distance and conflict to one of understanding and trust.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
