I have worked in foster care, residential facilities, case management, substance abuse, supported women with trauma, and provided therapy to
children
with developmental delays.
I enjoy working with all people from all walks of life. As a systemic therapist, a focus of mine will be on your family of origin and the events in your life that make you, you. Exploring our past aids in expanding our perspectives and provides new awareness which also helps in building greater connections to ourselves and to our loved ones. From a Humanistic point of view, I also believe that all people hold the key to their own healing. I look forward to working collaboratively together to find your unique path to healing.

I also have several years of experience working with parents and families with foster and adopted
children
.
My name is Darcy and I work with couples, individuals and families to build deep and loving connections with one another. If you feel frustrated, confused or alone in your relationship and you’re not sure how to find your way back to your partner, I can help. Together we will examine the painful aspects of your relationship and then work to help you communicate and process emotions more effectively with one another. I entered this field because I am passionate about the transformative power of relationships and, in my work, I have seen people move from a pattern of distance and conflict to one of understanding and trust.

I have experience working with families,
children
, adolescents, couples, and individuals.
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help others. Active listening, being empathetic, and showing compassion for others during tough times has always come naturally to me. I strive to bring these natural strengths, as well as the tools I have learned throughout my time as a student, to give the best possible care to each of my clients/families/couples. I believe that a client should be able to leave each therapy session with a greater understanding and self-awareness of how they can navigate through their lives.

My most fulfilling work has been spent with families who have
children
facing chronic and life-limiting illnesses.
Clients who come to therapy with identified problems, issues, and diagnoses are also bringing their own strengths and solutions; even if they don't know it yet. It's an honor to partner with clients who are open to doing the work of therapy while trusting me to guide them through their process.

My goal is to provide a safe and validating place for
children
to make sense of their experiences and heal.
I have been working with
children
and families since 2004 and have developed the philosophy that therapy guides us through complicated emotions, helps us make sense of our experiences, and empowers us to make healthy choices for ourselves. Issues such as adoption, attachment, trauma, and disruptive behaviors are often frustrating for families but can be overcome with therapeutic support.

Although I am a play therapist, this does not mean I only work with
children
.
To me, being a therapist is allowing the individual to be their true authentic self and to help guide them to reach their full potential. I have found in my time of being a therapist (intern and post- grad) that each individual has the capacity and the tools already within them to lead to self- actualization. My role is to help guide individuals to reach their full potential self. Each time I sit with a client, I feel honored that they have allowed me to come along on their journey and that they are sharing with me sides to them that they may not share with anyone else.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
