Are you someone who never thought you would be looking for a therapist? Are problems that were once manageable now feeling as though they aren't? As a trauma-informed therapist rooted in narrative practice, I am dedicated to opening spaces for those problems that are haunting you, or have haunted you for years. I consciously work to help you recognize that you are uniquely separate from your problems. Separating ourselves from the problems in our lives, such as grief, addiction, anxiety , love, or violence will guide us toward healing through crisis or times when we feel stuck.

I believe that people are the experts on themselves. However, they often need therapy to help aid them in discovering and changing the patterns in their life that continue to produce discomfort and/or unwanted outcomes. I have worked in the field of therapy for more than 11 years in a many different environments to include residential, forensics, inpatient, and outpatient settings. In these settings I gained experience in working with a variety of people focusing on different struggles to include depression, anxiety , addiction, grief, relationship issues, and other challenges.

My passion is treating trauma and PTSD. Maybe you’ve been thinking about trying therapy but you’re intimidated by asking for help. Or, maybe you’ve tried therapy but left before you accomplished your goals. That’s okay! I offer consultations to give you the opportunity to ask questions and decide for yourself whether therapy is a good choice for you right now. Trauma can impact our relationships and damages our quality of life. If recurring anxiety , intrusive thoughts, and depression are preventing you from living your life, talking to someone might be a good first step.

I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults who are experiencing the following: anxiety , depression, life stressors and transitions, grief and loss, trauma, and identity concerns.
I have firsthand experience with how nerve-wracking it can be to begin therapy, whether it is for the first time or with a new therapist. I prioritize creating a safe and welcoming environment for clients. I believe that the depth of healing that is possible through therapy makes it a risk worth taking, but the approach and temperament of the therapist is undeniably important. That is why I strive to provide each client with the individualized support they need to make the changes they want to make in their life. With the proper support and resources, I believe that every person can seek the healing they desire.

Emotional distress often originates from deeply-rooted fears or wounds.
Treating complex trauma is a calling for me. I love helping clients discover how one's personal history relates to their current functioning. If we look deeply enough, our symptoms make sense! I remind clients there's nothing fundamentally wrong with them; they can heal and make great progress. I help people discharge and reprocess trauma using EMDR, somatic therapies, etc. to spark the body's natural healing mechanisms, calm the central nervous system and facilitate peaceful, healthier living. (Note: Ketamine therapy is now being offered for appropriate clients who have been legally prescribed that medication for PTSD, MDD, etc.)

I work with adults struggling with depression, anxiety , self-esteem/confidence, trauma and relationship issues.
We are all many different things. We have many different feelings. We have many different issues. And we address them (or not) in different ways. We are a handful, and sometimes we need someone else to help figure things out. Human beings have a great capacity for growth and change, and in working together we can find the best version of yourself to be more authentic, happy, peaceful and inspired. My approach is simple: get personal. With an eclectic academic and professional background, I am committed to helping people though a method specific to their needs.

Art therapy is especially successful for clients suffering from anxiety , depression, trauma, and substance abuse.
Finding a therapist is not always easy, but it is an important step in a journey towards healing. We live in a world where there is a tendency to praise each other for accomplishing things without help, but when it comes to mental health no one should have to feel alone. As an art therapist, I provide the opportunity to work with art as a form of expression, which can deepen the therapeutic process beyond that of just talk-therapy. You do not have to have any background in art, experience using art materials, or even consider yourself "artistic" in order to do art therapy.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
