Life is full of surprises. Some are good, and some are painful. The exact details of pain are always unique. Themes I am familiar with include working with survivors of
trauma
and accumulated hardship, end-of-life preparation, grief, identity, depression, and struggles with intimacy. I enjoy helping individuals grow beyond the hardships of the past and find ways to thrive and live with openness and enthusiasm.

As humans we experience suffering (painful emotional states). This is normal...but what happens when you feel stuck here; as if you were living the same day over and over. Likely, your nervous system is overwhelmed and under-resourced. You attempt to cope the best way you know how. This might look like using substances, excessive sleeping or business, shopping, scrolling on media for hours, sex, self-harm, avoiding and people and responsibilities to name a few. While these are brilliant attempts to escape, numb or avoid the pain, it's not sustainable, nor should it be!

I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, ADHD, as well as other disorders. However, I take a relational perspective and don't define people by their symptoms. Stress, anxiety, depression, illness, can get in the way of the relationships we want. Even positive aspects of life, such as parenthood, education, and work can be obstacles to finding and maintaining close connection with others. I can help you learn to communicate more effectively, or get a handle on the anxiety or anger that hangs over everything you want to accomplish.

Therapy can be initially a very stressful undertaking, that may or should initiate change. I like to look at the positives of change and how that makes a person feel better about themselves and their outlook on life, now and in the future. In my 20 plus years of experience as a therapist I have found that the relationship between the client and therapist is most important for this to occur and for real healing to begin. I feel that my calm and excepting demeanor is a good fit for people to begin this process.

Hello! I'm glad you made it to my site. If you're struggling with managing stress, worry, panic, hopelessness, low motivation, procrastination, lack of meaning or purpose, low self-esteem, loneliness, or relationship problems - then I can help. I offer fully-virtual, individual therapy sessions by the hour, or marathon sessions for those who are interested in doing deeper work. If you've been in therapy before but have wished for a therapist who is more open to feedback or willing to use techniques that are more powerful than simply listening, then I just might be the therapist for you.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
