"It is not good for man to be alone.
Each person is unique. Even though hu mans are often very similar to one another, your struggles, strengths, and desires are different than anyone else's in the world. If you want to explore yourself, your beliefs, and your spirituality in depth, I am an excellent resource for you. If you want to see the links between your body, mind, heart, and soul, I believe I can facilitate that journey. If you want to discover what God is drawing you towards, we can work together to discern the loving and wise path.

I do my best to ensure that you or your teenager don't dread coming to counseling. As a previous "troubled youth" myself, I am well-aware of many of the issues that teens, adolescents, and young adults face. Throughout my experience in working with youth, adults, couples, and families, I have come to fully understand the importance of building healthy, trusting client/counselor relationships, regardless of the issue at hand. I look forward to joining you on your journey to freedom and wellness!

Appreciated, valued, connected, understood, respected and seen. These are all things we desire from others and ourselves. For many, along the road of life’s journey, these deeply desired needs get misplaced, fade or seem to disappear. In that vacuum, whispering questions of how and why often appear. So begins the quiet, desperate work of reestablishing these needs. Self reliance on these matters often produces mixed results. As doubt and weariness grow, hope and joy shrink. This, my friend, is where the journey of reclaiming yourself begins. Rest assured you aren’t alone, I see you standing at this cross road.

My therapy style is founded in CBT while also having an understanding in many other treatment modalities.
What is not making a change really costing you? Maybe happiness, personal growth, career progression, great relationships, control over your emotions and life. Your life is so valuable and you deserve to get the most out of it. You're ability to change is possible when you work consistently with the right strategy and mindset. Some of our greatest strengths come from our biggest challenges. I help clients work through anxiety, depression, relationship struggles and a variety of other mental health issues using science based practices. Video sessions or in-person sessions available.

With extensive training and knowledge of the hu man condition, including how positive and negative experiences impact our functioning in various stages of life, I am well equipped to identify points of interest for intervention in order to help a person heal.
Do you feel like sometimes you are on 'autopilot' and continue to see the same negative patterns playing out in your life? These patterns may be leading you to feel disconnected from people and the world around you, having pessimistic beliefs about what the future holds, and feeling generally dissatisfied with life. What if we could take a deeper look at the foundational experiences of your life and begin to make sense of the inner workings of your psyche? With this knowledge, you will be able to turn what used to feel like fate into choice points and become to true author of your life.

How we experience mental health concerns is reliant on several variables. One of the ones that is our overall health. Have we been diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness? It is not just how we “feel” about our illness; it is also how our body is reacting to our illness or healing. Another variable is family history and dynamics. What has been our family history with both mental and physical health? What is my role with my family? These are only a few examples of topics to consider. Lastly, another variable is my perception of self. It is not a question of how I see my behavior, but it is a matter of what is my “why” in life.

Are you experiencing a life-altering event such as divorce, job stress, or family challenges? I can help navigate the challenges and feelings that come with such experiences. If you are looking to process painful emotions, anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem, or chronic stress, I want to address the negative feelings you may be having and help you discover a new path. Therapy is great for feeling validated but it's also a great space identifying your blind spots to promote new ways of thinking and interacting with others. I can offer support and guidance as you process your struggles and help you find new direction.

On the many paths we walk in experiencing our lives, we encounter difficulties and challenges. "In a dark time, the eye begins to see", Theodore Roethke. We may be tempted to avoid or run from these challenges, however, when we can learn to be with them, we learn that these are moments in which a deeper sense of being is trying to emerge. When we work with and move through life's conflicts, we contact and may draw upon a vast reservoir of resources within and without that serve to clarify our sense of value and purpose, aiding ourselves and others by underlining our own unique gifts and skills.

In addition to the couples work that I do in conjunction with my wife, I also specialize in working with men struggling with a multitude of issues including communication issues, mood disorders, relationship problems, career transitions, and addictions.
Couples therapy has been found to be least effective of all therapies, thus it is important for clients to seek out therapists who are versed in the latest research on couples and marital therapy. The unique couples approach I co-created with my wife, called the Couples Synergy model, has helped thousands of couples internationally for over 25 years.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
