I specialize in treating clients with severe traumatic experiences such as combat, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, narcissistic abuse, physical violence, or accidents.
Intuition may have led you here not because you know exactly what is wrong, but because something doesn't feel right. I look forward to guiding you back to the health you seek. You are not broken or "damaged" by trauma, abuse, or relationship fracture, you have just lost your way. You know this because anxiety, depression and self doubt have shown up like a relentless storm threatening to capsize you. Sadly, this may even be at its worst within a relationship that should offer nurturing and growth but instead is toxic and painful. I can help you create your life worth living, and thrive in it.

Hi, I'm Matt. I enjoy working with clients who are ready for change and looking for skills and strategies to handle stress, depression, trauma, or addiction. My approach is solution-focused, and I aim to ensure every client receives what they are looking for in therapy. I believe in empowering my clients with the tools they need to navigate their challenges and build healthier connections with others. Since 2012, I have been working with clients who have experienced trauma. If clients stick with their treatment goals, I’ve seen many recover and go on to live very fruitful lives, experiencing post-traumatic growth.

“Every choice you make takes you closer to or further away from where you want to be.” This has been a guiding principle of both my life and my counseling practice. I am confident that I have the experience to help support and guide you to get where you want to be. And, just as important, I have the wisdom to know when what is required is not my area of expertise. Whether the choice has to do with an exciting possibility or traumatic situation, helping you decide where you want to be and then evaluating whether your choices take you closer to or further from that destination, is what my practice is about.

Everyone deserves to be seen, loved, and understood for being their authentic selves. My goal as a therapist is to help people understand themselves and their relationships, building acceptance and healthier thought patterns, behaviors, and emotional responses. I work from an attachment lens, acknowledging that generational trauma and childhood experiences shape our behaviors as adults. I strive to help couples and family members understand and accept one another as their vulnerable and honest selves.

The following are some of the life transitions and challenges I have considerable experience in with adults, adolescents and children: anxiety, anger management, bipolar disorder, blended/extended family challenges, depression, divorce/relationship loss, marriage and pre-marital, stress management and unemployment workplace issues.

New Chapter Counseling is a place where children and families are supported as they navigate life’s challenges and discover hope for what comes next. Every child and family has a story, and sometimes that story includes chapters of loss, change, anxiety, behavior struggles, or big emotions that feel hard to manage alone. At New Chapter Counseling, we believe those chapters do not define the whole story—they are part of a journey that can lead to growth, healing, and resilience.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists
What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?
By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?
Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?
It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
