I am an LPCC providing holistic therapy for adults and adolescents covering a wide range of psychological and emotional issues. I use existential and somatic mindfulness based approaches to help create a better sense of purpose, meaning, and connection in our lives. This helps to promote the building of a stronger and more resilient self as we navigate the ever changing landscape of life. I am interested in helping people develop healthy life, relational, and communication skills which in turn makes for healthier and more satisfying relationships whether they be intimate, parent-child, business, or friendships.

I have spent over a decade working with older adolescents and young adults, and their families, to help them build an identity that they are proud of, to navigate novel challenges, control problematic impulses, and to manage the transition into a fulfilling adult life.
When I was 18, I was kicked out of college because of substance abuse that was masking my personal struggles. The gap between 15 and 30 is often seen as the "best" time in people's lives, but I know how challenging it can be. Navigating new relationships, responsibilities, independence, identity issues and social pressures is so de manding. I am proud to have pulled myself out of that negative spiral, and I now strive to support young people - and their families - in doing the same.

My upbringing, education, and many years spent living and working abroad have given me a great appreciation for cultural diversity and sensitivity.
Life inevitably involves struggle, pain, and loss. The question is how do we respond to these things so that pain doesn't morph into long-term suffering, and so that meaning, joy, and connection can still be found, even amidst our struggles. That's where I can help. The foundation of my work is building a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic relationship where you feel understood. From there we can begin to craft effective responses to whatever is troubling you: depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, loss, chronic pain, or more existential concerns about life direction and meaning.

Clients are offered a judgement free environment, they are met and accepted right where they are at in life and given "help for today," so they can have more "hope for tomorrow."

Grief is an entirely normal, involuntary, and healthy response to loss. It is also a profound, confusing, even shattering experience in the very best of circumstances. Grieving in today’s world, however, is made even more complicated by, among other things, the widespread presence of grief illiteracy. Our closest friends and family might not know how to respond to our experiences of loss, and we might not even know how to respond to ourselves. As a result, the inherent sense of isolation often accompanying bereavement can be magnified to absurd proportions. Grief, today, easily and often ushers in an extreme sense of aloneness.

My goal for each individual I work with is that we improve the balance they have in their lives. This often occurs by shifting perspectives within ourselves and of the world around. Participating in consistent evaluation with each other helps maintain this balance over time.

(Scheduling in-person and Zoom now) Sometimes we experience disturbing levels of anxiety, depression, anger, or loss. Sometimes we feel disconnected or not able to get a handle on things. In those times emotions can be overwhelming or confusing, and our usual ways of dealing with life don't seem to work anymore. Therapy offers a way to increase awareness of who we are, measure our limits, and expand our personal and interpersonal abilities to make significant changes. I believe we have within us the potential for a healthy and creative life. In the therapy process, we have an opportunity to discover and unleash that potential.

I believe that we each have what it takes to move forward and succeed in life. Sometimes things happen to us beyond our control. Other times, we simply get in our own way. I've experienced both of these situations in my life, and I believe I can help you respond to life in a way that moves you forward in the direction you want to go. The type of therapy I practice, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) provides the framework for how to live your best life. ACT's principles provide a new approach to life, a way of being in the world. I learned them as a client years ago, and I still practice them everyday in my own life.

It's important to note that I embrace the emerging neurodiversity paradigm, one that appreciates individual differences in areas of perception, cognition, and choice-making that make us unique hu man beings.
In this age of narcissism and self-discovery, many are feeling isolated and alienated from others, causing us to reassess our relationships and personal choices. Many are disillusioned, anxious and depressed due to unwanted life experiences that threaten our sense of security and block our path to happiness. Understandably, many seek a trusted space to identify their concerns, explore circumstances in the context of personal feeling and values, and create an authentic pathway forward that's aligned with one's aspirations. If this description of distress and desire for change resonates with you, please consider my helping hand.

Trauma is something that affects many and at different levels of intensity.
My ideal client dares to do the work in therapy and integrate that work outside of the session. I facilitate the creation of secure functioning relationships. For individual clients, that means strong attachment bonds to their sense of self so they can self-regulate and begin to create new opportunities to live a life of beauty, excitement, and exploration. While for my couples therapy clients, we will work on building secure functioning relationships within the partnership through the processes of non-violent communication skills and repairing ruptures promptly.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
